QualificationsJob Summary:
This position will conduct regular inspections, generate health and safety assessment reports, ensure that all occupational guidelines and regulations are adhered to and train employees on safety policies and practices. The EHS Specialist should possess detailed knowledge of health and safety regulations and demonstrate strong leadership skills specifically the ability to motivate others to adhere to all health and safety policies and regulations. EHS Specialist should possess excellent communication and training skills and possess an acute eye for detail.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Lead and provide leadership in all areas involving Environmental, Health and Safety compliance
- Collaborate with management team to define EHS goals and objectives.
- Collaborate with management and department heads to tailor training to specific job roles
- Administer and develop employee training programs including emergency procedures, health and safety policies and best practices and possess the knowledge base, or the ability to, within six months of hire, to become certified in providing training in key areas.
- Develop and maintain emergency response plans and plan and administer drills to test effectiveness.
- Develop and deliver training programs on environmental awareness and the companies sustainability programs.
- Evaluate existing EHS practices, processes, policies and training tools in order to implement changes related to evolving legal and rule requirements and to identify, design and implement
- Conduct inspections and through assessments of workplace environments to identify hazards and potential Environmental, Health and Safety violations
- Provide solutions and intervention strategies for hygiene, health, and safety hazards
- Implement new health and safety protocols and measures to ensure compliance with regulations
- Lead investigation into workplace incidents and near misses and participate in root cause analysis
- Prepares and generate reports and compliance documents to management, OSHA, DEQ and other regulatory agencies and ensures the organization's compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
- Knowledgeable in the latest EHS trends, policies, regulations and best practices
- Foster a culture of health, safety and environmental responsibility throughout the organization.
- Contributes to team efforts by accomplishing related tasks as needed
- Other projects/duties as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong familiarity and knowledge base involving OSHA, EPA and ANSI regulations; OSHA or similar EHS certification preferred
- The ability to read and interpret safety data sheets
- Strong leadership and training skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills especially in English
- Acute attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Mechanical aptitude
- Ability to adjust and have availability according to business demand
- Ability to work in both office and production environments on a regular basis.
- Ability to work as part of a team and provide a positive work environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications and other systems as required
Education And Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, safety management, or related (preferred)
- Minimum of two years’ experience as an EHS Specialist, Coordinator or similar role required
Physical Requirements:
- Regularly use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms above and below shoulder level
- Regularly stand and walk for extended periods of time
- Regularly communicate in some manner either by speech/hearing or through written communication.
- Regularly use of vision abilities including close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
- Regularly work around moving machinery and heavy equipment.
- Frequently required to push/pull.
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Frequently exposed to high-speed moving mechanical parts.
- Frequently exposed to UV, strobing or flashing light.
- Occasionally exposed to fumes, dust or airborne particles.
