Eli Lilly Italia is looking for a Process Automation Engineer who shares our passion for improving lives around the world.

In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliable operation and qualified state of equipment and business processes within your area of support. You will guarantee that systems are in control, compliant, and capable of meeting customer needs, while continuously driving process and performance improvements.

As an equipment subject matter expert, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to help the business achieve its safety, quality, and productivity goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain the validated state of site control systems in compliance with Lilly quality standards, including the development and execution of validation strategies and related documentation.
  • Serve as lead investigator and executor for automation-related activities.
  • Provide daily operational support for site control systems, including troubleshooting, system modifications (in line with change control procedures), event response, and routine system maintenance.
  • Implement and support electronic systems (e.g., plant historians) to capture and analyze process automation data.
  • Design, specify, and code control systems, primarily focusing on the site’s Distributed Control Systems (DCS).
  • Perform functional testing of automation systems to ensure performance and reliability.
  • Manage automation projects from concept to implementation.
  • Provide automation expertise for capital projects, including new product introductions, system upgrades, and facility expansions.
  • Collaborate effectively to meet production plans and objectives.
  • Interface with external partners and vendors as needed.
  • Master’s degree (M.S.) in Automation, Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering, or a related field

Required Qualifications

  • Fluent in both spoken and written English

Additional Skills & Attributes

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and self-management abilities
  • Solid knowledge of Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) programming
  • Demonstrated technical curiosity, strong problem-solving skills, and a passion for continuous improvement
  • Prior experience in process automation engineering, preferably within a manufacturing environment
