Job Description
General Description:
We are seeking a Paralegal with knowledge of the U.S. healthcare system to join our team. The Paralegal will assist attorneys and practice groups in various types of legal matters and help in preparing legal documents; researching and compiling data; preparing drafts of documents; maintaining responsibility for files, calendars, and meetings, etc. This position offers a hybrid schedule, providing flexibility to work from home or the office. Currently, this role requires weekly in-office presence.
Key Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions:
- Gather, organize, summarize, and index documents from various sources.
- Attendance at and participation in meetings and/or trials.
- Preparation of documents and correspondence.
- Special projects and duties as assigned.
Required Skills:
- Organizational skills to work independently and meet deadlines in an atmosphere of frequent interruptions and high pressure.
- Organizational skills to maintain daily accounting of time records and input timesheets into the system directly.
- Communication skills to interact with all levels of internal staff, attorneys and management, government officials, medical personnel, and external clients of the firm.
- Analytical and critical thinking skills sufficient to make decisions regarding daily work.
- Time management skills to handle multiple tasks efficiently and accurately.
Required Qualifications & Education:
- 5 – 10 years of experience in a related area; experience in high pressure situations
- College degree
Preferred Qualifications & Education:
- Paralegal certification or
- Experience in U.S. healthcare system and/or medical field with familiarity with medical terms and medications
- General knowledge of litigation practices and procedures; knowledge of court systems (general district, circuit, federal, appellate).
- Knowledge of PACER and other electronic filing in state and federal courts, and administrative agencies.
- Knowledge of docketing/calendaring of all case events/filing deadlines using a centralized docketing system/software.
- Knowledge of court procedures, and where to find Local Rules of Court and Judge’s Standing Orders.
- Knowledge of processing summonses, subpoenas, discovery requests.
- Knowledge of preparing legal documents (pleadings, discovery, document production materials, memoranda) and other correspondence.
- Knowledge of Bates labeling and redacting documents for trial preparation; experience scheduling court depositions, hearings, and other meetings as determined by attorney.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
- Moderate or advanced keyboard usage
