Job Summary:

The IT Technical Architect – Senior is responsible for defining, assessing, and championing IT architecture strategies, principles, and standards in alignment with Cummins’ global IT strategy. This role partners closely with project teams and stakeholders to design, validate, and govern enterprise-ready solutions, with a focus on manufacturing systems, cloud-first adoption, and modern architecture practices.

The position combines technical expertise with stakeholder collaboration to deliver secure, scalable, and high-performance IT solutions that support Cummins’ business and operational goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Architecture & Governance
  • Define, design, and enforce enterprise IT architecture standards, frameworks, and reference models.
  • Ensure compliance with security, governance, and enterprise standards across all architecture deliverables.
  • Lead modernization initiatives, including cloud migration, containerization, and microservices adoption.
  • Apply solution architecture principles (CLEAN, CTRM, industry best practices) to deliver enterprise-grade systems.
Solution Design & Delivery
  • Design scalable, resilient, and cost-effective solutions aligned with Agile and DevOps practices.
  • Collaborate with business and IT stakeholders during Agile ceremonies to refine and validate solutions.
  • Drive solution functional fit analysis, ensuring alignment to both business and technical requirements.
  • Provide infrastructure capacity recommendations and performance tuning strategies.
Innovation & Modernization
  • Pilot emerging technologies (cloud-native, API-first, observability platforms) to drive innovation.
  • Reduce technical debt by promoting modular design, refactoring, and reusability of architecture patterns.
  • Monitor industry trends and ensure Cummins remains at the forefront of technology advancements.
Stakeholder Management & Leadership
  • Build strong partnerships with internal stakeholders, including business leaders, project teams, and IT peers.
  • Mentor junior architects and engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Act as a change agent to promote cloud-first, API-first, DevOps, and Agile methodologies across the organization..

Education

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business, or a related discipline.
  • Relevant certifications in enterprise architecture, cloud, or related domains are preferred.Experience: Intermediate level of relevant work experience required. 3-6 years of experience.

Experience

  • 7+ years of experience in IT architecture, with a strong background in manufacturing systems and MES platforms.
  • Proven experience in designing, implementing, and governing enterprise IT solutions in complex global environments.
  • Demonstrated success in cloud-native adoption, modernization, and technical debt reduction.

Technical Expertise Required:

  • Platforms: DS Apriso MES, MS SQL Server, Oracle Database, MS Active Directory
  • Observability: Dynatrace, Splunk, or equivalent monitoring tools
  • Virtualization: VMware ESXi, Hyper-V, or similar technologies
  • Cloud: Microsoft Azure, AWS – expertise in cloud-native architecture, deployment, and migration strategies
  • Architecture: Container-based solutions, microservices, API management, and integration frameworks
  • Governance: Strong understanding of security frameworks, compliance, and enterprise IT standards

Architecture & System Performance

  • Design scalable, resilient systems aligned with enterprise architecture and Agile sprint goals.
  • Integrate performance tuning, monitoring, and capacity planning into DevOps practices.

Modernization & Technical Debt Reduction

  • Lead legacy system replacement with cloud-native platforms and reusable architecture patterns.
  • Prioritize refactoring and modular design to reduce long-term maintenance costs.

Stakeholder Engagement & Innovation

  • Collaborate with business and IT stakeholders to refine solutions through Agile ceremonies.
  • Drive innovation by piloting emerging technologies and fostering continuous improvement.

Enterprise Architecture & Manufacturing Systems Expertise

  • Over 7 years of experience in enterprise IT architecture, specializing in manufacturing systems, MES platforms, and cloud-native technologies.
  • Proven ability to design and implement scalable, secure, and high-performance solutions aligned with business and operational goals.

Technical Proficiency

  • Platforms: DS Apriso based MES system , MS SQL Server, Oracle Database, MS Active Directory
  • Observability: Dynatrace, Splunk or similar
  • Virtualization (VMware ESXi, Hyper-V or similar)
  • Cloud: Azure, AWS – cloud-native architecture and migration strategies
