In the chemical process research and development (CPRD) department the Lead Process Chemist (LPC) is responsible for directing advanced research aimed at the development of therapeutic agents including: originating scientific experiments; ensuring high quality standards; developing new methodologies; originating and developing projects; leading a team as Lead Process Chemist and/or Scientific Integrator; maintaining a state of the art technical proficiency in knowledge areas pertaining to multiple stages of development.

Key Responsibilities:

• Designs and guides scientific experiments. Originates and develops new project ideas
• Ensures the proper and timely preparation of technical reports, manuscripts, and other documents. Consistent with company policy, where appropriate, publishes work in scientific journals/patents. Has or acquires good technical writing skills
• Effectively applies state of the art scientific knowledge to own or assigned projects. Shows a state-of the art proficiency in team discipline. Demonstrates considerable knowledge/expertise outside of own field, especially in bridging disciplines. Applies new approaches to the solution of problems
• Establishes priorities, checkpoints, and time frames for experimental work in support of objectives and for the adequate progress of team projects and objectives
• Keeps abreast of current scientific developments and new techniques by reading the current scientific literature broadly, and by interacting with outside scientists
• Attends in house seminars, local and national scientific meetings, in own or allied fields
• Trains and directs laboratory personnel. Delegates work assignments effectively. Evaluates performance of personnel. Plans developmental opportunities for personnel to increase efficiency, encourage job satisfaction and personal growth
• Takes an active role in discussions at research meetings, thereby sharing information, knowledge, ideas, and judgement to help establish valid scientific directions
• Ensures that new inventions and discoveries are properly documented as evidence of invention and reduction to practice
• Ensures that work adheres to established operating procedures and safety regulations adhering to company work standards
• Ensures compliance with GMP principles when necessary
• Leads by example. Acts as a scientific mentor to less experienced colleagues
• Acts as a role model for (lab) safety

Qualifications

Education:

• PhD in Chemistry with consistent track record of developing processes in a pharmaceutical industry setting

Experience And Skills:

Required:

• 5+ years of experience of directing a team in a small molecule API process development function
• Demonstrated ability to scale processes to large scale manufacturing
• Proven to be able to lead a project team but also be performant as a team member of the CMC-teams
• Detail oriented but also able to make quick decisions where needed
• Strategic problem solver

Preferred:

• Able to implement artificial intelligence as tool to improve our way of working

• This function might require up to 10 % of international travel
