Job Description
This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced bookkeeper to step into a senior role where you’ll combine hands-on accounting expertise with team leadership responsibilities. You’ll be working directly with company leadership to ensure accurate financial reporting while having the autonomy to manage complex reconciliation tasks and mentor junior team members. This role offers the perfect blend of technical accounting work and people management in a stable, growth-oriented environment that truly values consistency and long-term team relationships. You’ll play a crucial role in maintaining the financial health of exciting civil engineering projects while developing your leadership skills in a supportive, remote-friendly culture.
- Lead and manage accounting team members across payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable departments
- Perform comprehensive balance sheet reconciliations and ensure accuracy of all financial records
- Conduct quality control reviews and sensor checking of books to maintain high standards
- Handle advanced bookkeeping tasks and data entry using Xero accounting software
- Process invoices, manage billing operations, and oversee supplier reconciliations
- Coordinate seamlessly between different departments to ensure smooth financial operations
- Provide mentorship, guidance, and training to junior team members
- Maintain timely and accurate financial reporting for management decision-making
- Oversee month-end and period-end financial processes across multiple departments
Requirements
- Minimum 2-3 years of bookkeeping and accounting experience with demonstrated progression
- Essential Australian accounting experience with strong understanding of local practices
- Solid knowledge of GST, PAYG, and fundamental Australian tax concepts
- Advanced proficiency in Xero accounting software with hands-on experience
- Proven experience in team management and leadership roles
- Ability to work Sydney business hours (9 AM - 6 PM) with reliable home office setup
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in financial record keeping
- Strong communication skills for effective team coordination and client interaction
- Experience with balance sheet reconciliation and general ledger management
