Job Description:

The Senior Manager Maintenance Programs invests in our Purpose by leading Teams in driving strategic initiatives and the implementation of plans and schedules for the aircraft technical program. This role develops detailed, step-by-step instructions for various maintenance tasks to ensure safety, compliance, and that procedures are up to date with evolving technology. The Senior Manager Maintenance Programs is detail-oriented and a skilled communicator who looks forward to partnering across various Technical Operations (Tech Ops) workgroups to achieve goals in Customer Service, Safety, cost, quality, and efficiency.

  • Guide and lead team members using SWA talent management practices to coach, develop, and engage employees

  • Leads Teams in the implementation of Maintenance Program goals, aligned with Company and Department goals. Ensures that SWA provides safe, regulatory compliant, reliable and on time maintenance for its aircraft
  • Leads Teams in implementation of Technical Publications goals, aligned with Company and Department goals. Ensures that SWA provides AMTs maintenance instructions that support the safe, regulatory compliant, reliable and low cost operation its aircraft.
  • Manages activities of the SWA Check Analysis Team to ensure a data driven approach is used to understand Maintenance Check Findings, Root Cause, and develop necessary changes to the Program to ensure the Safe, Reliable, and low cost operation of the fleet
  • Develops a competent, productive, knowledgeable, effective and Customer Services oriented Team by recruiting and hiring qualified applicants; providing training and orientation on departmental policies and procedures; assigning work responsibilities and priorities; leading work activities; and evaluating the performance of the Team and Leaders
  • Fosters good working relationships and influences with peers in Engineering, Maintenance Projects, and other internal and external operating departments
  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders
  • Expert knowledge of the Southwest maintenance program, or similar level relevant knowledge of aviation maintenance through previous work experience
  • Knowledge in total quality management, process improvement and training methods
  • Skilled at leading organizational change, demonstrating strong communication skills, and the ability to motivate others
  • Skilled in analytical problem solving, able to provide coaching for identifying practical approaches and real solutions to extremely complex problems
  • Skilled with computer applications such as Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and open to fostering technical advancement though new and existing automation needs
  • Ability to lead aircraft maintenance organizations and accomplish specific goals
  • Ability to perform well under pressure, in time critical environments with multiple tasking and tight time constraints
  • Ability to make well thought out decisions during times of ambiguity, competing priorities or a changing landscape
  • Excellent communication skills; comfortable and well versed in delivering formal communication, both written and verbal, to various levels of the organization including Customers, Subject Matter Experts, and Sr. Leaders
  • Required: High School Diploma or GED
  • Required: Bachelor's Degree
  • Demonstrated experience in directly or indirectly leading teams and providing oversight and guidance for work deliverables
  • Fully functioning broad knowledge in
  • Managing Aircraft Maintenance, Engineering, Maintenance Control, Quality Assurance, Maintenance Programs, and/or Reliability Programs in an aviation related field
  • Advanced level Business Acumen. Seasoned and specialized knowledge in Airline Maintenance or engineering related field
  • Managing Aircraft Maintenance, Engineering, Maintenance Control, Quality Assurance, Maintenance Programs, and/or Reliability Programs in an aviation related field

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Willing to work flexible schedule as needed, including overnight and weekends approximately 15% of the time

Pay & Benefits:

Competitive market salary from $163,700 per year to $181,900 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the Company.
