Brent is a tremendously vibrant London borough where the iconic arch of Wembley Stadium dominates the skyline. Spanning both inner and outer London, it is a borough of huge contrasts in terms of its economic, environmental, ethnic and social make up. Brent’s diversity is evident to all who visit our borough and our long history of ethnic and cultural diversity has created a place that is truly unique and valued by those who live and work here.
The council is pursuing a far-reaching transformation agenda that better meets the needs of our community so it is an exciting time to join us.
We are looking to appoint a Licensing Enforcement Officer to join our small, but busy and supportive Licensing team, responding to a wide variety of licensing issues.
You will support the effective and efficient running of the team by helping to ensure compliance with legal requirements and licence conditions, and by assisting in the delivery of the council’s statutory duties across a range of licensing functions including applications for licensable activities on Wembley event days.
Our team is responsible for administering and enforcing licensable activities, including alcohol, entertainment and late-night refreshment; gambling premises and lotteries; charity collections; animal establishments; scrap metal; and street trading.
The role will involve a mix of office-based and field work, including monitoring and investigating street trading and licensed premises, and supporting enforcement action where necessary. You will be expected to use a range of enforcement tools under supervision to help maintain high levels of compliance.
Given the borough’s active late-night economy and major venues such as Wembley Stadium and Arena, you must be willing to work flexibly, including evenings, late nights and weekends when required.
The Person
We are seeking a motivated individual with:
- A basic understanding of licensing legislation and procedures
- Good communication and interpersonal skills to engage with businesses and the public
- The ability to manage and prioritise your workload effectively
- A willingness to learn and develop within the role
The Post
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Knowledge of Licensing functions and preferably, some experience of working in a local authority Licensing team (or similar relevant work experience)
- Skills in multitasking, prioritisation, workload management and time management.
- Working outside of normal office hours as required in order to meet service demands and emergencies.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to start their experience in licensing enforcement within a dynamic and high-profile environment.
