The Porgera Gold Mine will employ nearly 3,000 Papua New Guineans at full production, and over the last 30 years of life of the mine it has contributed approximately 10% of Papua New Guinea’s total annual exports

NPL is currently seeking a qualified and experienced individual to join the Capital & Projects team as an Engineer – Mechanical – Engineering Projects – Capital Projects.  (236773)                                                                    

About The Role

Reporting to the Senior Engineer – Engineering Projects, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing mechanical engineering projects, ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective completion of all tasks related to mechanical systems and infrastructure within the mining operation. 

In this role, you will.

• Plan, design, and execute mechanical engineering projects, ensuring they meet safety, quality, and cost objectives.
• Provide technical expertise in mechanical systems, including maintenance, upgrades, and new installations.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including contractors, other engineers and production and management teams, to ensure project timelines and goals are met.
• Maintain engineering and production related documentation, such as procedures, work methods, costing and Bills of Materials.
• Conduct risk assessments, monitor project progress, and report on performance against objectives.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, company policies, and relevant regulations.
• Maintain a high level of health, safety and environment awareness and comply with the NPL Occupational Health & Safety Policy and all health and safety rules and procedures.

About You

To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experiences:

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field. IEPNG accreditation will be well regarded
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering, preferably in the mining industry.
• Strong understanding of mechanical systems, project management, and engineering principles.
• Proven ability to lead and manage engineering projects from inception to completion.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
• Commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards.
• Design experience using 3D modelling/AutoCAD

Mobilization Requirement

• This position is open to PNG Citizens Only
• Rotation of 21 days on and 14 days off FIFO basic 
• Must successfully pass a pre-employment medical including drug and alcohol screening. (This will be arranged only for successful candidates who progress after the interview stage). 
• Must Have an up-to-date Police Clearance Certificate (acquired within the last 6 months)
