Back Office is part of the Power Trading Support organisation, with multi locations mainly in Geneva, Houston, Paris & Madrid.
As a back-office intern, you will work closely with the Originators, Traders, Operations, Middle Office, Energy Data Management, Legal & Compliance, Credit, Treasury, Trading Accounting and the IT teams, as well as the external counterparts.
This internship provides hands-on experience in energy trading operations, with exposure to complex financial and physical power products on the renewable business in Europe (PPA contracts, financial swaps, CCGT contracts, biogas, environmental certificates, aggregation/market access, flexibility market, batteries…). The Intern will be in contact with a portfolio of counterparties dealing with key responsibilities on the trade lifecycle: deal confirmations, invoicing, payments and contract management.
Activities
- Assist with daily validation (within 24 hours) of trades entered into the ETRM system, ensuring that accurate trading information is represented within our trading system;
- Reconcile counterpart/TSO invoices against the system in liaison with the Operations, Middle Office and Energy Data Management departments to resolve discrepancies
- Send invoices to counterparts within industry or contractual deadlines and ensure that the payments instructions are submitted to finance in a timely manner to comply with contractual payment dates
- Assist the Accounting team with accruals, aged debt reporting and resolution
- Support documentation control, contract archiving, and audit compliance tasks.
- Effective communications with numerous internal and external parties to ensure timely resolution of discrepancies and queries
Candidate Profile
- The ideal candidate holds a master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
- Ideally with a knowledge of power & renewable business in France and Europe
- A high level of engagement, reliability, and strong team player mentality, being able to work autonomously as well as part of a team
- Strong analytical and numerical skills, and problem-solving skills with a drive to improve processes and systems
- High degree of accuracy, attention to detail and efficiency under set deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Being fluent in English is essential and European languages are desirable.
- Strong adaptability to change in a complex and changing environment.
- Good IT skills – Proficiency in MS Office (Excel/PBI) and VBA/Python/SQL is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills and customer service mentality.
