About Thesteelprinters

TheSteelPrinters is a start-up incubated by ArcelorMittal R&D in 2020 with the goal of deploying innovative new technologies in additive manufacturing or 3D printing to support the maintenance and reliability of our facilities. Our daily activities involve discussing with maintenance and reliability stakeholders, helping to create new solutions that are more efficient, safer, faster, and with all the flexibility offered by 3D printing: design freedom, short development cycles, and continuous improvements. We aim to digitize, reinvent, redesign, ensure reliability, and add value, capitalizing on a digital passport of critical parts for ArcelorMittal, ensuring long-term value and extending it to other facilities to sustainably and broadly benefit ArcelorMittal.

Our team consists of 3D printing enthusiasts with unique expertise in design and conception, materialized by laser powder bed fusion technology. Four lasers work in concert, adding metallic powder layer by layer and selectively melting it with the laser where material is needed. A unique piece is thus created, with no boundaries to geometry or imagination! We are passionate about technology, its potential in the steel industry, and heavy industry worldwide. Join us!

Your Role

We are currently looking for an engineer to join our team in France, responsible for stimulating projects with our main ArcelorMittal France cluster and developing new collaborations in the region. The main objective is to generate projects in 3D printing production by helping to identify parts particularly suited to metallic 3D printing.

In this role, you will liaise with various manufacturing managers and reliability engineers, central maintenance, as well as the maintenance and new works purchasing department. Your goal will be to understand their technical challenges and identify opportunities where 3D printing can lead to significant cost savings, quality improvement, or safety enhancement. Once a promising opportunity is identified, you will collaborate to create a compelling case for additive manufacturing, coordinate the prototyping and validation process with the reliability engineer, and be the main point of contact to maintain the relationship. You will need to consolidate the value created for ArcelorMittal, both technically and economically. You will ensure the service and quality of this process for the satisfaction of ArcelorMittal France. This will include preparing quotes, recording 3D part orders, tracking orders with the support team in Spain, and validating and capitalizing on the solution with the end user in the form of a performance report. A similar approach should be initiated with the parts and maintenance purchasing departments or ArcelorMittal suppliers to evaluate other value sources for ArcelorMittal.

You may also be required to evaluate opportunities with other industries.

In support, you will have access to the parts and 3D engineering team and the centralized 3D laser manufacturing chain in Spain, as well as the catalog of all projects already completed in all clusters.

We are looking for a sociable person with a technical background, a first experience in production or maintenance (mechanical is a plus), and a strong problem-solving approach. Although prior experience in 3D printing is an advantage, we value candidates eager to learn industrial processes, applications, and end-user needs.

You will work closely with our design engineers who will provide support in developing technical solutions, including reverse engineering and redefinition activities. Additionally, you will collaborate with teams from other regions.

This position is ideal for an autonomous person, capable of setting priorities and executing tasks with minimal supervision.

What we’re looking for

  • Degree in mechanical or industrial engineering (or a related field).
  • Proficiency in professional Dutch and English (oral and written). Spanish is a plus.
  • A first experience in a technical role upstream or downstream.
  • Competent in understanding and analysing needs.
  • Curiosity, hunter mentality, and strong motivation for problem-solving.
  • Interpersonal skills and experience in relationship management.
  • Genuine interest in technology (knowledge of metallic 3D printing is a plus).
  • Well-organized and comfortable working independently.

What You’Ll Gain

  • Develop expertise in the rapidly growing technology of metallic 3D printing.
  • Opportunity to learn about new industrial sectors, processes, and professions, and gain knowledge of the range of processes in the steel industry and key performance, reliability, quality, and safety issues.
  • Be part of an international start-up and play a significant role within the company.
  • Visibility within the company with the value created by 3D printing recognized and monitored by management.
