Spatial Analytics Design and Enablement
- Lead spatial analysis, geolocation modelling, and enrichment using telco, geographic, and behavioral data.
- Develop and maintain reusable spatial models and thematic layers (e.g., population, income, footfall, network performance).
- Ensure models are scalable across OpCos and applicable to diverse sectors such as FMCG, public services, finance, and infrastructure planning.
Consulting and Monetisation Support
- Collaborate with Business Development and Solution Consulting to scope spatial PoVs and client engagements.
- Translate spatial insights into business outcomes for planning, segmentation, targeting, and infrastructure optimisation
- Guide commercial packaging and use case framing for spatial analytics offers
Spatial Platform Integration
- Ensure geospatial assets are integrated with DataCo’s core architecture and available in hybrid environments (e.g., Hadoop, Databricks, Azure, GCP, etc)
- Contribute to platform design and data pipeline enablement for real-time and batch spatial workloads
- Partner Data and Enrichment Coordination
- Manage relationships with third-party data providers (e.g., demographic vendors, mapping providers)
- Oversee ingestion and validation of external layers and harmonisation with telco data assets
Governance And Standards
- Promote standard GIS data models, metadata practices, and spatial quality controls
- Ensure geospatial data and models align with Group security, privacy, and compliance policies
Capability Building and Evangelisation
• Drive GIS maturity uplift across OpCos via enablement sessions, playbooks, and knowledge-sharing.
• Represent MTN spatial capabilities in industry forums, research publications, and strategic client engagements.
• Explore emerging spatial analytics techniques (e.g., geospatial ML, spatial-temporal graph analytics) and lead internal innovation pilots.
Education:
- Minimum 4 year degree in computer science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or related technical field (mandatory)
- Degree in Geoinformatics, GIS, Spatial Planning, Data Science, or related field
- Master’s degree or higher advantageous.
- GIS certification or postgraduate qualification (preferred)
- Certification in geospatial tools (e.g., ESRI, QGIS, PostGIS) or spatial data science is advantageous.
Experience:
- Minimum 6+ years of experience in spatial analytics, GIS implementation, or location intelligence roles
- Prior experience in telco, urban planning, consulting, or retail analytics domains
- Demonstrated track record of translating spatial insights into commercial or operational outcomes
Competencies:
- Strategic Framing : Aligns spatial solutions to commercial goals and customer outcomes.
- Geospatial Analytics: Expert in geolocation modelling, thematic mapping, and spatial visualisation tools (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS, PostGIS)
- Insight Translation: Strong ability to convert spatial patterns into actionable insights for commercial and operational use
- Technical Acumen: Familiarity with cloud-based spatial data systems and integration with big data platforms
- Consulting Orientation: Skilled in communicating complex spatial concepts to business and technical audiences
- Tooling and Frameworks: Knowledge of geospatial APIs, mobility datasets, routing models, and 3rd-party enrichment layers
- Governance and Quality: Ensures accuracy, lineage, and compliance of spatial models and insights
- Innovation Drive: Applies emerging spatial techniques to unlock new use cases.
- Data Integration: Merges telco, geographic, and partner data into enriched spatial products.
