This position is a key technical and leadership role within our Energy Transition and Energy Security organisation. The Lead Pipeline Engineer will take a holistic approach to onshore pipeline projects for the full cycle of the project from concept through to FEED, detailed design and execution. Reporting into the HOD Technical Consulting, they will focus on leading the execution of pipeline and other linear asset projects in line with the discipline design instructions, quality plan, and technical work practices and procedures and will also be responsible for recruitment to expand the GEC team based on Wood global offices requirement.
The ideal candidate will have a sound technical understanding and knowledge of linear asset projects along with the ability to communicate at all levels of the business both internally and externally in a Project engineering capacity. Principally, the candidate is expected to support workshare scopes with global Wood offices through proposals and estimating, assigning suitable resources, technical governance, etc. The ability to write coherent reports and communicate effectively with clients and senior management is an essential part of this role.
The onshore pipeline projects that we service are predominantly across the globe including EMEA, APAC, Americas as well as within India.
In order to reach the Net Zero goals, implementation of Onshore pipelines servicing Hydrogen and CO2 is essential, and this Wood team has been at the forefront of the development of these projects. This team will also support projects for conventional energy, water and utilities.
The projects are varied and interesting due to the different sectors that we support ranging from very short to muti-thousand kilometres KM in length with many technical complications that need innovative solutions.

- Interface with Wood global office Managers / Leaders in reviewing and planning workshare scopes, identifying suitable resources, recruitment needs, identifying training needs of the resources, etc
- Carry out and take technical responsibility for onshore pipeline design on nominated projects as instructed by Project Managers/Lead
- In-depth knowledge of international pipeline design codes including ASME B31.4 and B31.8, IGEM TD-1 and PD 8010. Familiarity with ASME B31.3, ASME VIII and various European Standards is an added advantage
- Interface directly with client pipeline engineers and project management where required
- Undertake pipeline routing including road/rail/river crossings. Buried pipeline routing is of particular importance.
- Close interfacing with the GIS team
- Perform pipeline design calculations using Wood and Client design methods, standards and data, to a high quality and in accordance with project requirements
- Check calculations performed by pipeline/junior engineers
- Take initiative in the preparation of other pipeline documentation including Design Basis, Detailed Engineering Calculations & Reports, Stress Analysis, Engineering Specifications, Data sheets etc for review by Lead Engineer
- Ensure compliance with Wood and Client’s Health and Safety, Environmental and Quality Management procedures
- Provide assistance to other disciplines and participate in review meetings, in accordance with project requirements
- Support Project Managers/Lead Engineers to ensure that work is completed within schedule and agreed budgets
- Support bidding activities as required
- Support internal development and continuous improvement activities as required

Expected:
• Civil or mechanical engineering degree qualified, other disciplines with suitable onshore pipeline design experience are also encouraged to apply.
• Requires previous experience on the mechanical and civil design and construction of onshore pipeline projects and the project execution strategies associated with pipeline procurement and construction
• Previous experience in the routing of pipelines through various terrain types (mountainous, jungles, wetlands, savannah, flatlands, farmland, urban and industrial areas) and river crossings design.
• Familiarity with GIS technology and routing methodologies.
• Proven track record in Concept, Pre-FEED, FEED and detailed design experience
• Able to develop pipeline installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance analysis and procedures
• Experienced in the use of pipeline design software (AutoCAD, CAESAR II, AutoPipe, MATHCAD)
• Sound appreciation of material selection, process design and HSEQ aspects of pipeline design and ability to develop material specification
• Ability to write coherent reports in clear English
• Ability to communicate across all levels of the business internally and externally
