Founded in 1927, the School of Chinese at HKU boasts a long and distinguished history as one of the university's most longstanding academic units. Currently, it encompasses four key programmes: Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History and Culture, Translation, and Hong Kong Studies. To support the School’s development in impactful knowledge exchange, teaching, and research, we are inviting a new member to join our events and publicity team.
Applicants should possess a Bachelor's degree or higher, preferably in marketing, journalism, communications, language, or a related discipline, along with at least one year of full-time work experience. Candidates with experience in event management, public relations, and/or knowledge of publishing design, media, and communications (e.g., website and social media management) will be given preference.
Successful candidates should demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills, have a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (Cantonese and Putonghua), and be capable of handling multiple assignments concurrently while balancing priorities and meeting deadlines. They should also be able to work independently and as part of a team, handle pressure, and multitask. Advanced computer skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Chinese word processing are required. Knowledge and experience with desktop publishing tools like Canva, Adobe Premiere, AI-assisted tools, website design, scriptwriting, and video production would be advantageous.
The appointee will be responsible for supporting knowledge exchange activities, student and alumni events, including planning, organizing, publicity, venue arrangements, and event management. The person will create promotional materials, assist in managing project websites, social media, and newsletter platforms, and support daily operations and other assigned duties. Candidates with a track record of relevant experience will be considered for the “Associate” post.
A highly competitive salary, commensurate with qualifications and experience, will be offered, along with annual leave and medical benefits. The appointment is expected to commence as soon as possible for one year, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview and a written test.
