Our Why
Datacom works with organisations and communities across Australia and New Zealand to make a difference in people’s lives and help organisations use the power of tech to innovate and grow.

About the Role (your why)

The Senior React Native Developer is a highly experienced and skilled software developer responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining robust, high-performance, and scalable mobile applications for both iOS and Android platforms using React Native. This role requires a deep understanding of mobile development principles, strong expertise in modern JavaScript/TypeScript and React Native, and a solid grasp of software engineering best practices. You will play a key role in the full mobile application development lifecycle, from technical design and feature implementation to deployment and ongoing optimization. Experience with back-end technologies, particularly the .NET stack, is a plus but not required.

What You'Ll Be Doing:

  • Mobile Application Development: Design, develop, and implement complex features and user interfaces for high-quality, cross-platform mobile applications using React Native.
  • React Native & JavaScript/TypeScript Expertise: Demonstrate strong proficiency in React Native, React, JavaScript (ES6+), and TypeScript. Expertise in state management libraries (e.g., Redux, MobX, Recoil) is essential.
  • Front-End Development: Focus on creating exceptional user experiences (UX), fluid performance, and responsive design, ensuring cross-device compatibility and adherence to mobile platform guidelines.
  • Native Module Integration: Experience with integrating and developing native modules (iOS/Swift/Objective-C or Android/Java/Kotlin) to bridge React Native with platform-specific capabilities when necessary.
  • API Development & Integration: Integrate mobile applications with back-end services via RESTful APIs or GraphQL. Experience in back-end technologies, like .NET Core/C#, is a welcome bonus.
  • Performance Optimization: Profile and optimize mobile application performance, including memory usage, startup time, and UI rendering speed, on both iOS and Android.
  • Testing & Quality Assurance: Write and implement unit, integration, and end-to-end tests (e.g., using Jest, Enzyme, or testing-library) to ensure code quality, application stability, and reliability.
  • Deployment & Maintenance: Manage the mobile application release lifecycle, including store submissions (Apple App Store and Google Play Store). Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines for mobile builds (e.g., using Fastlane, Azure DevOps, or AWS Amplify).
  • Code Reviews & Mentoring: Actively participate in code reviews, enforce coding standards, and share best practices across the team. Mentor and guide junior developers in mobile development techniques.
  • Requirements Analysis & Technical Design: Collaborate with product managers, designers, and stakeholders to refine requirements, assess technical feasibility, and translate them into robust technical designs and architectural decisions.
  • Problem Solving & Debugging: Troubleshoot and debug complex issues across the mobile stack, including performance bottlenecks and platform-specific bugs.
  • Agile Development: Work effectively within an Agile/Scrum environment, participating in all relevant ceremonies (sprint planning, daily stand-ups, retrospectives).

Key Skills:

  • Extensive experience with React Native for building production-grade iOS and Android applications.
  • Strong proficiency in modern JavaScript (ES6+) and TypeScript.
  • Deep understanding of React and its core principles (e.g., component lifecycles, hooks, state management).
  • Experience with mobile performance profiling and optimization techniques.
  • Proficiency in integrating with RESTful APIs or GraphQL.
  • Familiarity with native mobile development environments (Xcode, Android Studio) and the mobile CI/CD process.
  • Experience with testing frameworks (e.g., Jest, React Native Testing Library).
  • Strong understanding of software design patterns and best practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and debugging skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies.
  • (Optional): Experience with back-end technologies such as .NET Core (C#), and related tools (e.g., Entity Framework, SQL Server).
