Contributes to building a successful portfolio that looks to generate value through a combination of customer flow, supply arrangements, product development, speculative trading and risk management.

Shell Trading integrates a global trading network with a diverse portfolio in crude oil, refined products, natural gas, electrical power, and chemicals. Major locations include London, Houston, Calgary, Singapore, Dubai, Rotterdam, and Barbados. As one of the world’s largest energy traders, Shell Trading is a key segment of the Royal Dutch/Shell portfolio.

Shell LNG Marketing and Trading (SLMT) is well established as the largest LNG portfolio player in the world, holding large structural positions worldwide. Our trading hubs are in London, Singapore, and Dubai, with regional offices in The Hague, Houston, Lima, Rio de Janeiro, and Mexico City.

SLMT Short Term East trading team is in charge of all the short term LNG trading and marketing business in Pacific regions. The team currently consists of 9 traders and 6 analysts, working in unison with ST West trading team, to capture and create value globally for the company. The role would report to RTL Asia Pacific and would be based in Singapore

The successful candidate must have a deep understanding of the global commodity market, including supply and demand dynamics, geopolitical factors, and other factors that may impact prices. Key responsibilities include monitoring and analyzing market trends and conditions, negotiating prices with suppliers and buyers, staying up-to-date with the latest news and events that may impact the LNG market, developing and implementing trading strategies, building and maintaining relationships with clients and suppliers, and maintaining accurate records of all trades.

To be successful in this role, the successful candidate should have a strong knowledge of economics and financial markets, as well as excellent analytical and interpersonal skills. A proven record in trading, in both physical and financial trading.

  • Develop and implement trading strategies that are designed to maximize profits for the company.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of the LNG market, including supply and demand dynamics, price trends, and geopolitical factors.
  • Collaborate with Optimization, Trading West, Freight Trader to better position physical portfolio.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and clients, ensuring that the company or clients receive the best possible prices and terms.
  • Monitor and analyze market trends and conditions in the global LNG market. Drive development of trading tools.
  • Stay informed about the latest developments and news that may impact the LNG market.
  • Negotiate prices with suppliers and buyers, considering factors such as supply and demand, geopolitical factors, and market conditions.
  • Keep accurate records of all trades, including prices, quantities, and terms, and use this information to analyze market trends and identify new opportunities.
  • Utilize strong analytical skills to make informed decisions and execute profitable trades.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest industry advancements and emerging technologies, and evaluate the potential for their adoption in the LNG market.
  • Collaborate with internal functions, traders, analysts, to exchange information and build collaboratively trading edge.
  • Present regular market updates and analysis to senior management and other internal stakeholders.
  • Continuously seek to improve the company’s position in the LNG market, identifying and pursuing new opportunities for growth and profitability.  
  • Support the development of SLMT long term portfolio ambition, providing advise to Portfolio Trading and Origination.
  • Support the development of trading expertise by mentoring traders and trading analyst.
  • Protect Shell’s license to trade. Comply with Shell Trading Compliance Manual and Code of Conduct.

Requirements:

  • Expert Knowledge in LNG Trading, with a deep understanding of Shell’s LNG portfolio, exposure, hedging and optimization.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in LNG Trading with a proven track record of delivering profits.
  • Expert in building relationships, with a deep relationship with SLMT key long term partners.
  • History of strong collaboration with Trading West, Optimization, Freight and Paper Trading desk in SLMT.
  • Capacity to lead and operationalize trading strategies.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Highly curious, commercial, and motivated.
  • Excellent attention to detail. Precise execution to maximize value.
  • Proactive in proposing and driving improvements.
  • Support talent retention and development on desk.
  • International Travel Required.
