SLMT (Shell LNG Marketing and Trading) is the world’s top LNG trader, supplying one in five LNG cargoes globally. With 60-70 LNG carriers on long-term charter, SLMT supplies and discharges over 1000 LNG cargoes across more than 145 terminals worldwide. This high value, growing business has supply sources in the Atlantic and Asia Pacific basins and customers in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas. SLMT also operates the world’s largest LNG bunkering network with fourteen vessels in Singapore, Europe, and the Americas.
The Operations team provides end-to-end trading operations and logistical support, ensuring timely implementation and execution of freight and cargo transactions. They work closely with the Trading and Optimization team to maximize value and minimize profit leakage, leveraging flexibility and optionality in LNG contracts. Operations also support new market entries and key portfolio and digitalization projects.
Reporting to the LNG Trading Operations Vice President, the East LNG Operations Manager is part of the Operations leadership team overseeing a global organization of around one hundred staff. This role leads approximately thirty cargo and freight operators located in Singapore, managing SLMT’s East portfolio.
Delivery
- Ensure flawless day-to-day operations meeting Shell HSSE and Compliance standards as well as external regulatory requirements,
- Drive operational excellence with a thorough understanding of commercial business needs and how the Operations team captures value in commercial markets, while keeping reputation and customer satisfaction in front of mind.
- Develop strong relationships externally (industry counterparts, ship owners, operators, agents, surveyors, ports, and terminals) and internally with other partners serving similar customer base for learning.
- Manage the operational interface with external counterparties in cargo and freight contract chains, representing SLMT’s interests in business performance reviews.
- Contribute to over 30$M of commercial value add and operational excellence beyond day-to-day operational activities.
- Strengthen connection with other regional hubs through alignment of processes and sharing of best practices. Apply ideas from external market to benefit operations. Own operations-related systems and platforms including data integrity.
- Deliver continuous improvement, automation and simplification initiatives identifying new opportunities and synergies with other Operations teams.
- Set up robust systems and controls across the end-to-end operations process, aligning LOD1 checks with other regional teams.
- Develop, monitor, and improve performance through measurable and value focused KPIs and efficiency metrics for cargo and freight operations.
- Contribute to the delivery of Ops digital transformation roadmap. Progress in flight digitalization initiatives in partnership with SLMT.
- Manage accountable opex within budget.
- Support the decarbonization journey and new market entries delivering operations readiness for key projects.
- Partner Shipping & Maritime and SLMT to optimize shipping performance and improve carbon emissions reporting.
- Advise commercial colleagues on the operational aspects of proposed contractual arrangements for new deals and markets.
- Embed a positive learning culture in the team through sharing control learning events, lessons learnt and best practices.
- Ensure robust business continuity plan and cybersecurity awareness in place.

Skills And Experience
- Proven leadership skills. Considerable experience leading Oil or LNG operations teams in a 24/7 global trading environment.

- Experience working with diverse cultures across locations.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills across all organizational levels.
- Strong focus on HSSE and Compliance with ability to quickly intervene.
- Commercial driven with focus on P&L and ability to manage multiple conflicting priorities.
- Supply chain strategic planning and implementation skills.
- Ability to influence internal and external audiences.
- Able to connect team members to the bottom line and effectively translate business targets and organization strategies to the level of individual operators.
- Collaborates effectively across multiple groups to achieve organization goals.
- Knowledge of LNG value chain. Experience in trading/shipping operations.
- Knowledge of LNG digital tools, systems, and platforms.
