JOB SUMMARY:Within the context of a client and family-centred care model and in accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice, code of ethics, and the established mission, vision, values, objectives and policies of the organization, the Infection Control Coordinator, Nursing administers, oversees and coordinates the Infection Control Program for multiple sites as established by the Regional Director, the Infection Control Officers, and the Infection Control Committee. Supports staff by providing information based on specialized theory/practice, related to the surveillance, prevention, and control of infection in designated healthcare facilities and associated out-patient settings. Consults, confers and collaborates with interdisciplinary team members, educators, and other health care professionals/providers to achieve excellence in client centred care, education and research. Coordinates infection control surveillance; compiles, analyzes, and interprets data; and makes recommendations to improve the effectiveness of existing practices or procedures. Acts as a resource for nurses and other health care providers and supports services in the organization and community and provides clinical leadership on interdisciplinary teams in addressing infection control issues through consultations, continuing education, and other presentations.QUALIFICATIONS:Education & Experience Baccalaureate in Nursing, with a Master’s Degree preferred, plus five (5) years' recent, related nursing experience, including two (2) year supervisory experience and completion of a CHICA-Canada (Community and Hospital Infection Control Association – Canada) approved course in infection control or certification in Infection Control (CIC) or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesBroad knowledge of nursing science theory and practice within a client centred care model.Demonstrated knowledge of BCCNM standards for nursing practice.Comprehensive knowledge of the principles used for prevention, control and surveillance of infection.Comprehensive knowledge of epidemiology, microbiology, infectious diseases, and research techniques.Broad knowledge of hospital policies, procedures and standards of care.Comprehensive knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.Demonstrated ability to effectively deal with others in a consultative/collaborative method.Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and work direction.Demonstrated ability to develop educational programs and material.Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.Demonstrated ability to function independently and as a team member, teacher, coach, leader and facilitator.Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities, work simultaneously on multiple assignments, and to meet deadlines. Demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected events.Demonstrated ability to problem-solve, think creatively, and resolve conflicts.Demonstrated ability to synthesize, analyze and interpret statistical data.Demonstrated skill in CPR techniques Demonstrated ability to operate a PC using database management software, including data entry and analysis; and computerized patient care information system.Ability to operate related equipment.Physical ability to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.
