Position Summary

Work location:  In office, at our East River/Houston location.

The Director of Information Technology is a key member of Orion’s leadership team, responsible for setting and executing the Company’s IT strategy while ensuring reliable, secure, and efficient operations across the business. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director provides vision and direction for Orion’s technology roadmap, cybersecurity posture, and IT operations (applications, infrastructure, networking, and security).

This leader will act as a strategic business partner to senior management and operational teams, aligning technology investments with corporate objectives and driving innovation that supports growth, efficiency, and shareholder value creation. The Director will build strong relationships across the organization, translating business needs into technology solutions and fostering a culture of collaboration, service, and accountability.

A central responsibility of this role is the leadership and professional development of Orion’s IT team. The Director will mentor and inspire IT professionals, ensuring the team operates with high levels of technical expertise, customer focus, and adaptability in a rapidly evolving digital environment.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Exhibits the ability to effectively work closely with executive management and serves as a strategic partner to establish and achieve annual goals for IT department.
  • Demonstrates high level of critical thinking and problem solving to grow, innovate and evolve the current IT department.
  • Demonstrates ability to develop Information Technology policies, procedures, and guidelines for management of all aspects of IT operations, infrastructure, maintenance, system resiliency, and operational support.
  • Demonstrates ability to oversee the IT infrastructure including networking, telecom, storage and computing platforms, e-mail, multimedia conferences, and networked security systems.
  • Demonstrates ability to monitor business continuity and disaster recovery plans, assesses security risks and implements safeguards, develops, and maintains IT security policies.
  • Demonstrates ability to analyze the needs of different departments and determine ways to meet business objectives by modifying, developing, or implementing new information processing systems.
  • Manages the daily operations of the IT Department.
  • Develops IT policies, procedures, and controls that govern all IT processes to ensure compliance with other Company policies and regulatory entities as well as federal, state, and local laws.
  • Administers and manages annual IT compliance audits in conjunction with the Internal Audit department.
  • Ensures that all work being performed by members of the Information Technology department is being completed in accordance with all compliance regulations, Company policies and procedures, and standard practices.
  • Ensures that disaster recovery and business continuity plans, systems, and infrastructure are established and tested.
  • Ensures that IT projects are being completed according to the design, budget and schedule set forth and agreed upon by self and Executive Management of the Company.
  • Performs reviews of the physical, virtual, cloud, security, LAN, WAN, and mobile IT infrastructure and applications to identify and recommend areas of improvement or change that will better suit the goals and needs of the organization and/or reduce capital or operating costs.
  • Performs reviews of client satisfaction to identify areas of improvement.
  • Assists as needed with analyzing, troubleshooting, and repairing high level systems and applications to maintain their proper configuration, integrity, performance, and security for end users to perform their daily job functions efficiently.
  • Manages the relationships and work being performed by third party consultants and support personnel on special projects or needs that require their assistance to ensure defined SOWs, Company policies and procedures, and Federal regulations are being adhered to.
  • Provides operational, service desk, infrastructure, compliance, and other KPI reports to executive management on a continual basis.
  • Responds to off-hour alerts, calls, e-mails, or notifications to ensure operational efficiency and uptime.
  • Assists as needed with any IT related projects as determined by the Vice President of Information Technology.

Position Requirements

A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent certifications such as ITIL, PMP, ITAM, MCSE, MCSA, CCNA, CCNP and 15+ years’ experience in the field or in a related area with 10 years’ experience leading teams. The incumbent must have excellent computer skills and be knowledgeable with all Microsoft applications including Windows Server and Desktop Operating Systems, Systems Center, Office365, SQL, Word, Excel, Access Outlook, and PowerPoint, and Mobile Device systems. The incumbent must also be knowledgeable with Active Directory setup and maintenance and current security management standards as well as LAN/WAN technologies, standards, securities, and best practices. The position also requires exceptional problem solving, interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate and relate to senior-level executives, management, as well as all levels of employees.

Discretion and trustworthiness, and the ability to keep all Company information and materials strictly confidential (both internally and externally) are essential elements of this position.

Must be well organized, diligent, and be a self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision and to independently identify work to be done.  Must be flexible and have the ability to adjust to sudden changes in work priorities. The incumbent must also have the ability to prioritize work generally and in order to accommodate those changes.  Attention to detail and extreme care in performing tasks accurately and carefully are also essential.

Physical/Mental Requirements

The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation. 

The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment if required to work or visit the jobsite.  This may include hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, personal flotation devices, or other equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done. 

The incumbent must possess the ability to remain calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as dictated by the circumstance of the incident and as directed by the Safety Representative or other management personnel. Must be capable of evacuating the work area in a timely manner should an emergency situation arise.
