Job Description
Please note: Effective October 1, 2025, the Ohio Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services has transitioned to its new name—the Ohio Department of Behavioral Health. This change reflects our continued commitment to providing comprehensive, person-centered care that addresses the full range of behavioral health needs for Ohioans. All positions and services now fall under the Ohio Department of Behavioral Health as we move forward in serving individuals, families, and communities across the state.
What You’Ll Do At Dbh:
- Operates dispatch equipment on assigned shift: promptly answers all in-coming calls, connects caller with correct extension; supplies authorized information (i.e., names of department heads, address of facility, names of other administrators) to callers;
- Pages employees & makes announcements as requested/authorized;
- Provides patients with telephone lines for authorized use (e.g., personal, legal) during authorized periods of time;
- Places calls &/or provides long distance/local phone lines for employees on hospital-related business;
- Supplies walk-in visitors during normal business hours with information &/or directs them to appropriate staff;
- Announces all emergency codes/drills (e.g., medical, psychiatric, danger, disaster, fire & alerts) as directed; notifies designated personnel of emergency codes according to established procedures;
- Serves as contact person with facility’s police officers after regular business hours; completes unit checks on an hourly basis after normal business hours; contacts “on call” staff upon direction of shift nursing supervisor &/or shift police officer; receives reports of telephone problems from staff & reports to supervisor;
- Completes required clerical duties such as maintaining various logs, types routine documents;
- Complies with & understands policies, procedures, rules & regulations of switchboard operation; attends scheduled training.
This is an hourly position covered by the OCSEA/AFSCME bargaining unit (union), with a pay range of 5 on the OCSEA Pay Range Schedule. This position is located within COBH at 2200 W. Broad St. Columbus, OH 43223.
