School of Medicine | Department of Medicine | Division of Pulmonary, Asthma, & Critical Care Medicine
Job Title: Laboratory Sciences Professional (Entry – Senior Level)
Position: #00840837 – Requisition: #37913
Job Summary:
The Berdnikovs/Holguin Lab uses systems biology principles to understand the organism-level interactions between metabolism, development and inflammation in lung and allergic diseases, with basic science, translational and computational biology research components. The Research Services Laboratory Professional will play a key role in foundational projects with real potential to impact future therapeutic development in obesity, allergy, and asthma. This position will gain hands-on experience in both bench science, performing functional assays of metabolic and immune pathways and in vivo animal experiments, as well as translational research, including handling and processing biospecimens from patients and direct interaction with clinical collaborators.
Our research vision emphasizes impact and innovation. Examples of lab’s principal projects include: (1) studies of how obesity, metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance impact the airway and development of allergy and asthma in children and adults; (2) understanding how different organs communicate during inflammation and mechanisms by which gut hormones such as GLP-1 and brain- and adipose tissue-derived hormones regulate inflammation; (3) mechanistic research to understand why metabolic diseases (obesity, diabetes) make individuals more susceptible to severe viral infections. This is a rare opportunity to learn the state-of-the art in vitro, in vivo and in silico lab techniques and be involved in cutting-edge cross-disciplinary research that spans from molecule to bedside, in a supportive academic environment where your contributions will be instrumental in shaping the lab’s direction and impact within the university and beyond.
Key Responsibilities:
- In-vitro sterile cell and tissue culture.
- Performance of immunological lab assays (flow cytometry, ELISA, etc.).
- Performance of functional biochemical assays for studies of metabolism.
- Set up and processing of in vivo experiments with rodents (handling mice, administering substances, euthanasia and anesthesia, dissections).
Accurate Record Keeping.
- Purchasing and inventory of reagents.
Work Location:
Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.
