TxDOT Bryan District is looking for a Transportation Engineer Supervisor to serve as the District Design Engineer. The position will supervise the Bryan District Design Section located in Bryan, TX.

Salary Range: $101,860 - $172,272

Description

 

Supervises personnel engaged in transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, design, construction, transportation/traffic operations, maintenance and/or bridge inspection. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials, private entities and/or contractors. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.

Essential Duties:

•     Supervises professional and administrative staff.
•     Coordinates with area engineer on design and plan preparation.
•     Assists in the development of the district's annual letting plan. 
•     Drives/travels to project/work locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analysis, tests and to provide technical support. 
•     Makes presentations and represents TxDOT. 
•     Monitors contract performance, evaluates contract deliverables, reviews billing documentation, monitors the consultant's compliance with the terms of the contract, and prepares and delivers a written evaluation of the consultant's performance. 
•     Negotiates fees and budgets, develops and negotiates scopes of work, negotiates contract work schedules, and negotiates other contract agreements. 
•     Responsible for district highway design functions of the Bryan District which includes preparation and submission of Plan, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E) on all assigned projects. 
•     Reviews, monitors and develops complex layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, and estimates and contracts, 
policies/procedures, standards and guidelines, correspondence, reports and surveys or documents. 
•     Schedules, coordinates and prepares documents for various technical meetings at local and state levels and conducts meetings. 
•     Trains engineering staff. 
•     Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. 

 

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.

Experience:

  • 4 years experience in transportation engineering. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
  • Must have one (1) year supervisory/managerial experience. Project leader or lead worker experience may substitute for supervisory/managerial experience. 

Licenses And Certifications:

  • Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
  • Licensed Prof Engineer*

*Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States, but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment.

  •     Design and plan preparation methods and requirements 
  •     Transportation design engineering principles, practices and methods and the application of engineering theory

•     Establishing plans and setting objectives and goals that support overall business strategy/results; anticipating and adjusting for problems/roadblocks 
•     Supervising technical staff 
•     Negotiating settlement of differences without damaging relationships through individual performance plans; monitoring and measuring performance against goals; evaluating results and making necessary adjustments to meet deadlines 
•     Speaking to present images and ideas in a clear, concise, organized, and interesting manner to optimize audience understanding and keep the group focused 
•     Monitoring the status and progress of projects 
•     Planning, assigning, directing, coordinating and reviewing the work of professional, administrative and technical employees 

Skill In:

  •     Communicate effectively 
  •     Exercise logic and reasoning to define problems, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; makes decisions that support business objectives and goals 

Physical Requirements And Working Conditions:

  •     Light work - Lift up to 20 lbs. at a time and frequently lift and carry objects up to 1 O lbs.

  •     Talking expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words 
  •     Repetitive motion: substantial movements of the wrists, hands and/or fingers 
  •     Close visual activity: work includes data/figures; view of a computer screen; extensive reading
