Job Summary:
Under limited supervision, designs, documents, programs, implements, and troubleshoots controls for semi-automatic and automatic manufacturing equipment, with end goals of improving production safety, quality, capacity, and/or lower costs.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities:
- Designs electrical hardware and software controls for new and existing manufacturing equipment.
- Specifies components for use in equipment for controls systems.Control system drawings, schematics and spec sheets.
- Programs and debugs equipment PLC’s, HMI’s, servos and robots.
- Collaborates with Process Engineering, Maintenance, and Production to verify that design meets—their specifications.
- Collaborates with mechanics and electricians to ensure equipment builds and installations are completed efficiently
- Collaborates with production planning to schedule electrical work and equipment modifications and/or installation.
- Develops clear and concise operator instruction manuals and equipment documentation.
- May train or mentor less experienced engineers.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or other related engineering field
- 5+ years as a Machine builder, Controls Engineer or related
- PLC programming experience with a focus on Allen Bradley Studio 5000 Ladder Logic
- Functional experience programming VFD’s and Servo controllers.
- Functional experience programming robots, Denso or Fanuc preferred
- Proficiency creating detailed electrical schematics with AutoCAD or EPLAN
- Experience reading and interpreting pneumatic / fluid schematics
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment
- Strong background of system design, implementation, testing and maintenance
- Experience with industry standards, including NFPA, ISO and ANSI.
- Experience with safety risk assessments and functional safety requirements.
Skills And Abilities:
- PLC programming, controls circuit design, machine safety standards and component selection criteria knowledge and experience required
- Analytical skills with an ability to independently evaluate and develop innovative solutions to complex situations
- Written and verbal communication skills and presentation skills. Ability to communicate with internal and external customers on issues of moderate to considerable importance, up to and including senior management.
- Demonstrates a high level of accuracy, even under pressure
- Ability to work within tight timeframes and meet strict deadlines
- Project management skills, including identifying and scheduling process steps, determining resources and staff required to successfully complete assigned projects or project steps and reporting on project
- Demonstrates a high commitment to quality
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Ability to apply process improvement planning and checking to own work output and to assist others with identifying gaps in work results

- Standard ADA Selection: Production Environment:
- Exposure is to a manufacturing environment, which lends itself to varying levels of exposure to dust, odor, fumes and temperature extremes dependent upon assigned location(s) within the manufacturing plant. Incumbent may be assigned to other areas such as clean room environments or areas where there may be medium to high noise levels requiring participation in the company’s Hearing Conservation Program. Employee must wear appropriate protective welding gear, gloves, safety glasses, ear plugs, mask, steel-toed shoes, apron or other predefined personal protective equipment when working in the production and/or warehouse areas.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. Throughout the course of the day, the employee is frequently required to sit, climb or stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
- Depending on location, the employee may be exposed to temperature extremes varying from very hot in summer (up to 100 degrees) to very cold in winter (down to 45 degrees). While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often exposed to moving mechanical parts and material handling equipment.
- In the course of performing welding duties, if a part of assigned job, there is exposure to heat, bright light and airborne ember-like particles. For employees whose regularly assigned work environment is not the production floor, there will be some exposure to dust, odor, fumes, noise, and temperature extremes when job duties take them into the production and/or warehouse areas. Safety shoes, safety glasses and ear protection must be worn while in the production and/or warehouse areas.

ANNUAL SALARY: $90,000 - $113,000
