Job Duties

The Office of the Executive Secretary of the Supreme Court of Virginia is seeking a highly motivated candidate to joining the Department of Fiscal Services as a Senior Accountant. This position is responsible for completing journal entries, analyzing financial data, performing financial data reconciliations and interface data reconciliations, monitoring financial activities, assisting with accounts receivable activities and monitoring, and assisting with financial reporting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Accurately document and create journal entries and monitor financial activities
  • Assist with Accounts Receivable and Cash Management process to include preparing invoices, reviewing journals generated from the AR process, reviewing aging reports, and assisting with the collection process ensuring compliance with applicable state regulations
  • Assist with financial reporting activities
  • Assist with interpretation and evaluation of accounting policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations as it pertains to the agency's financial transactions and reporting

Minimum Qualifications

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Experience preparing account reconciliations, updating/maintaining spreadsheets, creating journal entries and preparing financial reports
  • Analytical skills researching, reconciling, and evaluating accounting documents and converting financial data into complex spreadsheets
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply financial policies and regulations
  • Working knowledge utilizing Microsoft Office to include utilizing formulas, pivot tables, etc., to create and develop spreadsheets
  • Experience in automated accounting systems and reconciling system data
  • Ability to communicate effectively, work both independently and as a team, and organize, plan and manage multiple tasks on deadline

Additional Considerations

  • Experience with Accounts Receivable
  • Experience in a governmental accounting setting
  • Associate's degree or higher in accounting or related field
