Purpose Of Position
The SIM-ND Operations Specialist performs a full range of professional duties assisting colleagues with designing and implementing simulation curriculum (courses, content, and materials) for SIM-ND. He or she works collaboratively with SIM-ND leadership, SIM-ND Operations Specialists, and other SIM-ND Education Specialists throughout North Dakota to fulfill the overall mission and vision of SIM-ND. Their primary focus will be facilitating simulation events as well as equipment and vehicle maintenance in their region. They will assist their SIM-ND Education Specialist as needed on event organization and daily operations. The SIM-ND Operations Specialist and SIM-ND Education Specialist for each region will work as a team to execute simulation education throughout their region and North Dakota, reporting to the Program Manager.
Duties & Responsibilities
Teach/Instruct Education Courses
- Teach education courses using a variety of adult learning principles
- Teach in the simulation curriculum, including, but not limited to medical students (Years 1-4), medical residents, nursing students, paramedics, practicing professional healthcare providers, law enforcement, first responders, and industry safety personnel
- Assist with the incorporation of simulation as a foundational modality for healthcare education courses
- Assist in teaching various health care simulation education courses, including but not limited to: Adult, Pediatric, Neonatal, Trauma, and OBGYN. Demonstrates expertise in teaching and speaking to a variety of educational groups.
- Demonstrate expertise in communication skills
- Use evaluative materials and constructive feedback to modify education applications and modalities, as needed
- Travel to educational events as needed
Coordinate the maintenance and operations of the regional SIM-ND simulation equipment including vehicles, simulators, AV, and moulage
- Assist the SIM-ND Education Specialist with daily operations and program administration in collaboration with Program Manager.

- Coordinate with SIM-ND Education Specialist and SIM-ND leadership on all management, repair and maintenance for regional SIM-ND equipment to include but not limited to: vehicles simulators, AV equipment, Moulage , simulated medical equipment
- Assist the SIM-ND Education Specialist regarding regional administrative duties and day-to-day operations. To include but not limited to:
- Organizing/planning events
- Fielding new requests and delegating to the appropriate staff
- Gathering proper staff and equipment
- Collaborate with SIM-ND leadership and other SIM-ND Education Specialists as needed for various simulation-related projects

Collaborate with SIM-ND leadership and the rest of the regional team members on developing and updating SIM-ND curriculum
- Collaborate in the design of simulation scenarios for use with a variety of in-situ or human patient simulators.
- Assist in designing course objectives to reflect stakeholder learning needs
- Assist with the development of scenarios to meet the stakeholder objectives
- Identify and implement cognitive and psychomotor skills into healthcare scenarios
- Develop physiologic trends in scenario design
- Collaborate with the simulation technical specialist to program scenarios and evaluate scenario physiologic sequencing
- Assist with developing and distributing detailed simulation scenario worksheets to SIM- ND staff regarding simulator presentation, medication preparation, moulage, and equipment needs
- Participate in scenario review and makes modifications as needed
- Assist with the development of facilitator materials for scenarios
- Assist with the analysis of assessment tools and outcomes to be used in scenario development
Work with staff on various projects that fulfill SIM-ND’s educational mission
- Work with staff to compile research and assist with grants for funding to support simulation activities
- Collaborate with the staff on simulation evaluation and research for SIM-ND
- Work with staff to create future SIM-ND policies and procedures
Required Competencies

- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Simulation Center/SIM-ND users, including, but not limited to, staff, learners, vendors, and external healthcare agencies
- Demonstrated ability in use of personal computers and & spreadsheets
- Must be able to travel locally, statewide, or nationally an average of 3-4 days per week
- Must be available to work frequent evenings and weekends
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Paramedicine, Physician Assistant Studies, Health or Medical Science, Family Nurse Practitioner or an Associate’s degree and 5 years of related experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in clinical practice in patient-centered healthcare
- Experience with teaching or instruction
- Experience in healthcare simulation
- Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated hands-on experience operating and maintaining healthcare simulation technologies, including manikins, task trainers, audiovisual systems, and simulation platforms used for scenario delivery and debriefing
- Experience delivering pre-hospital patient care across diverse environments, including rural and urban settings
- Designation of Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) or Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS)
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
- Current or former AHA instructor
- Experience in managing and coordinating fleet vehicles, overseeing specialized maintenance (including diesel engines and hydraulic systems), and ensuring compliance with North Dakota Department of Transportation regulations
