Scope/Purpose of the Position
The Facilities Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing the building’s systems and infrastructure to ensure a safe, efficient, and fully operational environment. This includes routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and emergency response across HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and other building systems—all while upholding the highest standards of safety, quality, cost efficiency, and GMP compliance in a high-speed manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions
Primary Duties
- Perform building maintenance and repairs across electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry systems.
- Conduct regular facility inspections to identify and resolve potential issues before they escalate.
- Implement preventive maintenance programs to ensure optimal system performance and longevity.
- Respond promptly to work orders, document all repairs, and complete activities through the work order system.
- Act as a point of contact during facility-related emergencies (power outages, alarms, leaks, equipment failures).
- Coordinate and oversee external contractors and vendors for specialized repairs and large projects.
- Follow all OSHA, safety, and compliance protocols to maintain a safe work environment.
- Adhere to Bakerly’s Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
- Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
Secondary Duties
- Support documentation and recordkeeping for inspections, repairs, and compliance audits.
- Assist with continuous improvement initiatives for facility reliability and safety.
Collaboration
- Partner with Production, Quality, Sanitation, and Maintenance teams to ensure the facility is operational and efficient.
- Communicate effectively with peers, supervisors, and vendors about facility status, repair needs, and timelines.
Compliance
- Ensure adherence to OSHA, GMP, and company safety policies.
- Maintain records for audits, inspections, and regulatory compliance.
Requirements
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Education and/or experience with industrial electricity, automation control, or mechanical repairs.
Experience
- Previous facility maintenance or general repair experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Hands-on background with electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and general building systems.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet facility needs.
Skills
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficient in the use of hand and power tools.
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical certifications in HVAC, electrical, or welding.
- OSHA or other safety training certifications.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or climb (including stairs/ladders).
- Ability to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
- Dexterity to handle tools, parts, and materials.
- Vision abilities including close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
Work Environment
- Work primarily on the production floor with exposure to varying temperatures, humidity, and noise levels.
- Frequent standing, walking, and bending required.
- Possible proximity to food ingredients, including allergens (wheat, dairy).
- PPE required at all times (hairnet, beard net if applicable, gloves, safety shoes).
- Strict adherence to sanitation and safety standards.
