Position Summary

The Information Security Operations Specialist plays a critical role in safeguarding Beanfield’s information assets by maintaining a secure environment, monitoring security events and alerts, and responding to confirmed and potential cyber threats.

This role is responsible for the management and operation of security tools and systems, including firewalls, corporate network equipment, and security solutions, while developing and tuning detection rules, monitoring security events, and leading investigations and response activities. The Information Security Operations Specialist works closely with Beanfield’s technical teams to ensure the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of critical information systems.

Key Responsibilities

Security Infrastructure Operations

  • Develop, implement, and maintain firewall & security appliance rules to enforce security policies and restrict unauthorized traffic.
  • Process and review firewall & security appliance rule change requests, ensuring proper documentation and approval.
  • Monitor firewall & security appliance performance and health; conduct maintenance to ensure optimal operation.
  • Administer and monitor network access, ensuring only authorized devices and users connect to the LAN.
  • Lead efforts to remediate vulnerabilities and risks across security and LAN devices, reducing the organization’s attack surface.
  • Ensure compliance of network devices and endpoints with established security policies and baselines.
  • Centralize and correlate relevant security events from firewalls and network devices for anomaly detection and investigation.

Threat Monitoring & Incident Response

  • Develop, deploy, and operate monitoring tools for network traffic, system logs, and alerts to detect threats or vulnerabilities.
  • Proactively track emerging threats and recommend security enhancements to strengthen overall posture.
  • Investigate, analyze, and respond to cybersecurity incidents following the incident management framework.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to lead incident response, manage escalations, and provide technical expertise.
  • Conduct post-incident reviews, identify root causes, and contribute to problem management to prevent recurrence.

Security Operations & Continuous Improvement

  • Support the creation, implementation, and management of security policies, procedures, and controls aligned with best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in ITIL-based continual improvement initiatives to refine security processes and improve response efficiency.
  • Contribute to enhancing the maturity of the Security Operations function.

Security Reporting & Documentation

  • Compile and maintain security incident reports, vulnerability assessments, and risk analyses.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including SOPs, incident response plans, and security policies.
  • Provide regular reports to the Director of Information Security on incident status, vulnerability trends, and security performance metrics.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Required:
  •  3-5 years of hands-on experience with firewall management, network operations, threat detection, incident response, and vulnerability management
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
  • Familiarity with SIEM platforms, firewalls, IDS/IPS, and other cybersecurity tools
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical security concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Current knowledge of cybersecurity methodologies and trends
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in high-pressure situations
  • Self-motivated, dependable, resilient to change, and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Preferred:
  • 4+ years of experience in one or more of: Network Operations, Security Operations, IT Operations, Security Incident Response
  • Hands-on experience with FortiNet products and technologies
  • Experience with vulnerability assessment tools (e.g., Nessus, Qualys, OpenVAS)
  • Scripting knowledge (Python, PowerShell, Bash) for security automation
  • Exposure to network planning, design, and governance risk & compliance
  • Experience with ITIL-based Incident and Problem Management
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks (NIST, CIS-CSC, SOC 2, ISO 27001)
  • Preferred certifications, such as CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional), CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker), CompTIA Security+, or ITIL v4 Foundations

Additional Requirements

  • Availability to participate in on-call rotation for security incidents, including after-hours work during critical events.
