We are actively seeking a highly skilled, technically proficient, and hands-on Platform Engineer to join our innovative team. This role is ideal for an individual who thrives in dynamic, experimental environments and demonstrates an aptitude for managing complex technical projects from conception to completion. The successful candidate will be a creative problem-solver with outstanding communication skills, with a profound passion for leveraging industry best practices in both coding and architecture to drive the design of groundbreaking and efficient systems.

As a member of our team, you will play a crucial role in spearheading the integration and adoption of emerging technologies at Colgate-Palmolive. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of both software engineering principles and advanced architectural methodologies. They will be driven by a strong desire to translate overarching strategic objectives into agile, scalable, and sustainable technological solutions. As part of our forward-thinking Emerging Technologies team, you will have the unique opportunity to significantly influence our organization’s technical direction and deliver high-impact solutions that contribute to achieving critical business goals.

This position is based out of the Piscataway, NJ location. Work visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Key Responsibilities

Architectural Design & Implementation

  • Strategic System Design: Design and implement robust, secure, and future-proof application architectures that are in alignment with our team’s priorities. A primary focus will be placed on ensuring these architectures are robust foundations for future expansion and scalability in consultation with the wider architecture team.
  • Technology Stack Selection & Prototyping: Specify detailed technical requirements, select optimal technology stacks, and develop compelling proof-of-concept architectures. These prototypes will be designed with the explicit potential to evolve into full-scale, production-ready systems, demonstrating viability and effectiveness.

Project Leadership & Delivery

  • End-to-End Project Management: Take leadership in planning, executing, and managing small-scale projects or significant sub-projects from initiation to completion. This encompasses comprehensively defining project scope, accurately assessing resource needs, and setting realistic, achievable timelines for all deliverables in consultation with your peers and leads.
  • Technical Oversight: Provide direct guidance alongside other engineering teams. This involves offering clear direction, conducting thorough code reviews, and providing invaluable peer mentorship to foster skill development and ensure adherence to best practices.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Interdepartmental Collaboration: Work in close collaboration with product managers, business analysts, and other engineering teams. This collaborative effort ensures that all solutions comprehensively meet both technical specifications and critical business requirements.
  • Effective Stakeholder Communication: Articulate complex technical concepts in clear, concise, and easily understandable terms for stakeholders with varying levels of technical expertise. 

Technical Evaluation & Innovation

  • Industry Trend Analysis: Stay informed of the latest industry trends, emerging technologies, and disruptive innovations. Proactively evaluate their potential applicability and value to Colgate’s unique environment through rigorous research, hands-on prototyping, and strategic pilot projects.
  • Standardization & Improvement: Proactively suggest and advocate for the adoption of new architecture standards, proven design patterns, and advanced tools.

Quality Assurance & Best Practices

  • Code & Documentation Standards: Define and follow standards for writing clean, maintainable code, comprehensive documentation, and effective peer review processes to ensure high-quality outputs.
  • Clean Code Advocate: A solid and demonstrable understanding of the principles of writing and maintaining clean, efficient, and well-structured code that adheres to established industry standards and best practices, promoting maintainability and readability.
  • Testable Architectures: Ensure that all application architectures are testable at every layer, from individual components to integrated systems.
  • Continuous Architectural Refinement: Regularly review and refine existing architectural strategies to ensure ongoing compliance security and internal best practices

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Educational Foundation: A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Mathematics or Engineering.
  • Coding Proficiency: A minimum of 1 years of hands-on experience with scripting languages such as JavaScript, Python, or other similar relevant languages
  • Proven Architectural Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge of architecture best practices, ideally coupled with practical experience in system design and the development of scalable solutions. Experience at any scale is valuable, indicating an understanding of foundational architectural principles.
  • Application Testing Knowledge: Familiarity with application testing methodologies, including but not limited to unit testing, integration testing, and end-to-end (E2E) testing, ensuring comprehensive quality assurance.
  • Database & Data Modeling: Practical experience with relational database technologies and a solid understanding of data modeling principles, crucial for designing efficient and scalable data solutions.
  • Agile & Lean Methodologies: Understanding, and ideally proven use of, Agile practices to effectively manage workflows, ensure iterative progress and foster continuous improvement in project delivery cycles.
  • Continuous Integration (CI) Platforms: Familiarity with modern Continuous Integration (CI) platforms such as GitHub Actions, CircleCI, TravisCI, or similar tools, indicating an understanding of automated build and deployment processes. 

Preferred Experience

  • Cloud Platform Development: Prior experience in developing and deploying applications on leading cloud platforms, with a strong preference for experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Front-End Web Development: Experience in developing responsive and engaging front-end web applications utilizing core web technologies like HTML5, CSS, and contemporary JavaScript frameworks such as React, Vue.js, or Angular.


Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range $83,200.00 - $133,000.00 USD

Pay is determined based on experience, qualifications, and location. Salaried employees may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, profit-sharing, and long-term incentives for Executive-level roles.

Benefits: Salaried employees enjoy a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance, paid parental leave, disability coverage, and participation in the 401(k) retirement plan with company matching contributions subject to eligibility requirements. Additional benefits include a minimum of 15 vacation/PTO days (hourly employees receive a minimum of 120 hours) and 13 paid holidays (vacation days are prorated based on the employee's hire date within the calendar year). Paid sick leave is adjusted based on role and location in accordance with local laws. Detailed information regarding paid sick leave entitlements will be provided to employees upon hiring and may be subject to adjustments based on changes in legislation or company policies.
