Senior Manager, Finance Transformation (Finance Department) – Canada

Job Summary

The Senior Manager, Finance Transformation, is responsible for leading the strategic transformation of finance operations across the firm. This role focuses on leveraging AI and digitalization in finance, staying up to date of finance technology trends, and ensuring operational excellence. The successful candidate will support the CFO's office in achieving key strategic goals and facilitate the optimization of finance operations.

Work Environment

As part of the Firm-wide Finance team, this role can be located in any of the Canadian cities that Fasken has offices (Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City, Calgary, Tsuut’ina Nations, Vancouver, Surrey). Hybrid remote work arrangements are available with requirements as per business needs for onsite office support. The successful candidate must live in or around their regional office and be able to commute to the office as often as required. In-office requirements are subject to change, based on business needs as determined by the Firm’s Management.

Standard core hours of work are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.. This role is not overtime eligible and some flexibility will be required within the Firm's core business hours to meet the needs of the department and other region’s time zones.

Responsibilities

1. Finance Technology Strategy:

  • Strategic Support, Adoption and Alignment:
  • Align finance transformation initiatives with the firm's strategic plan and firm-wide objectives.
  • Ensure alignment of transformation initiatives with regional finance teams and firmwide SMEs.
  • Oversee change management processes to ensure smooth transitions, training and high adoption rates of new systems among regional finance teams.

2. Finance Technology And Innovation:

  • AI and Digitalization in Finance:
  • Lead initiatives to integrate AI and digital technologies into finance processes.
  • Stay informed about the latest trends in finance technology and apply these insights to drive innovation within the firm.
  • Develop and implement training programs for regional staff to ensure successful adoption of new finance technologies and AI applications.
  • Maintain expert-level knowledge, data integrity, and compliance requirements related to finance technology platforms.
  • Act as the primary liaison with vendors and external partners for finance system upgrades, AI features, and technology support.
  • Act as a point of escalation for complex issues, providing solutions and strategic direction.

3. Finance Technology Operations:

Operational Excellence:

  • Collaboration with Finance departments to streamline processes and improve efficiency, considering physical and digital locations, accountability, standardization, and technology enablement across all units
  • Maintain finance operation excellence through process audits, reviews, improvements and monitoring process metrics.

Required Knowledge and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field; a Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., CPA, CFA) is preferred.
  • Extensive experience in finance transformation, project management, and operations within large professional services organizations.
  • Demonstrated expertise as a system administrator and hands-on experience on Financial systems and other automation tools used in professional services or law firm environments.
  • Strong understanding of finance processes, and systems, with a focus on AI, digitalization and technology-driven transformation.
  • Formal training or certification in AI applications for finance or legal operations is highly desirable.
  • Proven track record of leading complex, technology-driven transformation projects, including change management and training development.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, stakeholder engagement skills and proven problem-solving capabilities and ability to manage complex initiatives.

Compensation

The typical salary range for this position is $130,000 - $150,000 annually; the base pay offered is based on location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, internal and market equity.
