We are seeking a dedicated Data Protection Compliance Manager to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a crucial role in safeguarding our data and ensuring compliance.
As the Data Protection Compliance Manager, you will be equipped with extensive knowledge of GDPR and UK DPA18, enabling you to work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure that Penguin Random House (PRH) owned companies within the UK meet their data protection obligations. You will be the key point of contact for data protection matters, working closely with PRH Information Security and Legal Teams in both the UK and US, and the Integrity and Compliance Officer.
Key Responsibilities:
- The role will include collaborating, assisting and sometimes leading remediation activities for the business units in scope, including:
- Providing pragmatic and risk-based advice and guidance to the business and be the first point of contact for Data Protection issues
- Identifying issues that require legal advice and liaising with the legal department on such matters
- Compiling regular and detailed reports to the senior management including the Integrity and Compliance Officer as well as updating Bertelsmann’s corporate data protection department on GDPR compliance
- Dealing with requests from individuals when exercising their rights such as access to, or deletion of, their personal data
- Maintaining detailed and up-to-date records and data flows, of personal data processing activities carried out across the business units
- Carrying out regular on-going training about GDPR and DPA 18 requirements to employees across the business (including new starters) to ensure awareness and understanding of Data Protection obligations
- Creating and maintain the controls framework for Data Protection for the business units and carrying out maturity assessments to identify, report and remediate weaknesses or risks
- Co-ordinating, reviewing and implementing DPIAs, and keeping an on-going log of those documents
- Assisting the Director of Information Security with data protection elements of data breaches, including advising on decisions to report to the data regulator, the ICO
- Populating the corporate toolset to consolidate records and ensure we are prepared for any Data Protection related audits
What You’Ll Bring
Essential Criteria:
- The key requirement is that you have practical UK based data privacy and protection knowledge and experience, i.e. able to demonstrate implementing privacy and not just ‘advising’
- Pragmatic and risk-based approach
- Ability to collaborate and build strong stakeholder relationships and capable of influencing at all levels of the organisation in a friendly and constructive manner
- Excellent communication skills, able to simplify the complicated
Qualifications
- IAPP CIPP qualifications, especially CIPP / E, CIPM or ISEB DPA

Salary
£60,000 - £70,000 dependent on how your skills and experience align to the role, plus bonus and benefits.
Hybrid Working
While our offices across the UK are places to connect, collaborate and celebrate with colleagues, we recognise that flexibility around where you work is just as important. For this role, there is no set working pattern to attending the office. We expect that the postholder will work flexibly, attending the office when required.
