Change.org is searching for a Lead Product Designer to drive growth-focused design across our product, from bold 0→1 bets to rapid optimization experiments on existing flows. You will report to our Senior Director of Growth Design and play a key role as a senior individual contributor within the Product team.

We’re a social impact business (a public benefit company), and the world's largest social change platform with 100 million users, 40,000+ campaigns launched on the site every month, and a 100% user-generated revenue model. Our users win campaigns for change once every hour. We’re working for a world where no one is powerless, and where creating change is a part of everyday life. We’re just getting started and hope you’ll join us!

From mobilizing over 5 million people to investigate the fires in the Amazon, to mobilizing nearly 3 million against war and famine in Yemen, to large-scale mobilizations for the people of Iran and against the war in Ukraine, and calling for racial justice in the US, many movements were born on Change.org. Dozens of local, national, and international victories are happening every day thanks to the strength of our members who are changing the lives of people around the world. We want to help them go even further and we need your help!

Key Outcomes

  • Design and launch improvements to key user journeys (petition starters and petition signers) that drive measurable gains in activation, engagement, or retention.
  • Concept and launch 0→1 features aimed at growing the use of our product, building them quickly to test, learn, and iterate.
  • Partner with product, engineering, and data teammates to deliver growth-focused design projects that improve user experience and contribute to growth goals.
  • Apply behavioral design principles to reduce friction, design growth loops, and share learnings that deepen the team’s understanding of user participation.
  • Learn from experiment results and research to guide decisions and build alignment on growth opportunities within the squad.
  • Support and mentor teammates by modeling strong design craft and experimentation practices, helping raise the quality of growth design within the team.

The most important core competencies for the role are:

  • Growth Design Expertise: Proven ability to design for activation, engagement, and retention, and monetization. Skilled at identifying friction points and creating solutions that drive measurable growth.
  • Strategic Problem-Solving: Adept at navigating complex or ambiguous challenges, from 0→1 bets to iterative optimization. Brings structure and clarity, shaping solutions that align with both product strategy and team goals.
  • Emotional & Behavioral Design Thinking: Understands what motivates people and what holds them back. Designs experiences that build trust, tap into emotions, and inspire meaningful action.
  • Collaboration & Influence: Works closely with PM and Engineering partners to develop a shared vision and bring product ideas to life. A strong cross-functional partner who influences decisions through user insights, storytelling, and clear design rationale, building alignment and trust across teams.
  • Craft: Demonstrates high standards of experimentation practice, user flows, with an eye for clear, effective UX writing is a plus. Raises the quality of growth design through strong execution and attention to detail.
  • AI Curiosity & Application: Open to exploring and applying AI tools to speed up prototyping, spark design ideas, and improve workflows, with the ability to spot where AI can add value to user experiences and team practices.

Target Experience

  • 8+ years of product/UX design experience, ideally in B2C contexts.
  • Experience leading growth-focused design projects or experimentation initiatives within a squad or across a small number of teams, delivering measurable user impact.
  • Experience working on both 0→1 product design as well as optimization experiments at scale.
  • Background working on emotionally complex user journeys (e.g., civic tech, health, finance, or other trust- and motivation-driven domains).
  • Proficiency with design systems, experimentation platforms, and user research methods, and ability to apply them effectively to growth design challenges.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, with the ability to influence product and engineering peers and contribute to team-level decision-making without direct reports.
  • Open to exploring and applying AI tools in design or product work (e.g., for prototyping, content creation, or user research) with curiosity about how AI can enhance workflows and user experiences.
