Lead Advisor - Compensation
Reporting To: Director, Compensation
Location: Orance, CT
Work Type: Office, 5 Days
The base salary range for this position is dependent upon experience and location, ranging from $113,000 to $142,000 plus up to 16% bonus
Summary:
The Lead Advisor will lead compensation programs and initiatives and serve as a trusted advisor for advanced compensation concepts. This role is ideal for a strategic thinker with deep expertise in incentive plan design, variable pay, or executive compensation, especially within a regulated industry. Candidates with experience supporting rate cases, regulatory filings, or audit processes are strongly encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities include supporting executive compensation, managing reporting requirements, conducting market analysis, maintaining grade structures, ensuring compliance, and administering annual incentive and merit programs. The ideal candidate will bring a data-driven approach and broad experience partnering with People & Organization (P&O) colleagues and leadership to deliver innovative, timely compensation solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead or support administration of annual programs such as incentive plans, bonus, and merit cycles.
- Advise management and P&O colleagues on compensation strategies related to succession planning, reorganizations, recruiting, and retention.
- Provide consultative support and training on compensation programs to employees and leaders.
- Maintain and analyze market pricing and employee data using internal systems in a secure and confidential manner.
- Create and present data-driven recommendations and findings to senior management.
- Conduct complex data analyses including merit modeling, incentive accruals, and ad hoc compensation reporting.
- Perform job evaluations and provide guidance on organizational design, job architecture, and title structures.
- Participate in and/or lead audits, rate cases, and regulatory reporting.
- Compile and analyze data for budgeting and forecasting purposes.
- Lead or support compensation-related projects and respond to special requests.
- Ensure adherence to internal controls and compliance standards.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in compensation analysis and program administration.
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel (including VLOOKUP, pivot tables, and conditional formulas).
- Experience with Workday, SAP, or similar ERP systems.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to incorporate multiple factors into compensation decisions.
- Knowledge of FLSA and other compensation-related laws and regulations.
- Proven ability to build relationships across all levels of the organization.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey sensitive information with tact and clarity.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong preference for candidates with experience in a regulated utility environment.
- Experience supporting rate cases, regulatory filings, or audit processes.
- Relevant certifications in Human Resources or Compensation (e.g., CCP, PHR/SPHR).
