The Returns Transportation Program Manager is motivated, results-oriented, and committed to delivering best in class returns transportation experience to customers while balancing a variety of key factors of those shipments. This position is responsible for creating the returns transportation strategy aligned with Nordstrom’s Reverse Supply Chain vision while owning the returns transportation service, speed, quality and cost performance. This individual will own the return transportation carrier relationships and performance, while focusing on continuous improvement and optimization of the flow of shipments from customers to sellable locations, suppliers or through various exhaust tracks. They will engage with a variety of internal and external stakeholders with a high level of communication, collaboration, and attention to detail. 

A day in the life… 

  • Create, manage and implement the strategy for Returns Transportation of Nordstrom Full Line and Rack merchandise from customers to Nordstrom fulfillment centers, suppliers or various exhaust tracks. 
  • Collaborate with Transportation & Logistics, Distribution, Product, Engineering, Customer Care, Fulfillment Center Operations teams and a variety of external stakeholders to define optimal returns transportation processes & performance expectations, and deliver at a high level. 
  • Analyze carrier performance and cost-efficiency initiatives across business units, ensuring alignment with service standards and financial targets while fostering strong carrier partnerships through evolving omni-channel capabilities 
  • Assess, develop and implement creative customer-focused returns transportation solutions to achieve key factor goals and balance service, speed, quality and cost performance. 
  • Partner with Strategic Sourcing, Freight Payment and Audit teams and external stakeholders to best leverage return carrier contract agreements and ensure best practice invoicing and freight payment practices 
  • Understand and utilize systems and carrier networks for intelligent routing, tracking and receipt of customer returns shipments.
  • Apply data analysis, problem solving and project management skills to identify and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Prepare and regularly communicate updates and performance to the leadership team.

You own this if you have… 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, Transportation, Business or Engineering desired. Graduate Degree or MBA a plus 
  • 5+ years of transportation, logistics, engineering or supply chain work experience
  • Demonstrated teamwork and influencing / negotiating skills to drive successful results with multiple internal and external stakeholders 
  • Strong creative problem-solving skills, business acumen, and a customer-focused mindset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Comfortable in a fast paced and collaborative work environment  
  • Ability to develop reporting for functional area, coupled with the ability to use analytical tools to organize and interpret data, present ideas and create continuous improvement projects
  • PC knowledge, including Microsoft Office applications. 
  • Ability to travel up to 10-20% annually.
