The Department of World Languages, Literatures & Cultures in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Spanish with a primary specialization in U.S. Latino/a Literature and Cultures with areas of expertise in Mexican Literature or Caribbean Literatures preferred; Secondary areas of expertise and interest desired include Heritage Language Learners or digital humanities. This is a standard nine-month faculty appointment with orientation activities beginning August 10 and teaching duties beginning August 17.Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Spanish or closely related field conferred by the start of employment for the appointment at the Assistant Professor Level. Candidates should demonstrate excellence in research, in addition, the successful candidate will be expected to provide effective instruction and advising to undergraduate and graduate students and possess the interpersonal skills and collegiality necessary to help maintain a strong Spanish program at an R1 institution. Occasionally, teaching may occur outside the Spanish Program, such as in the Latin American and Latino Studies Program or other courses offered by the World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures Department, or in leading a study abroad program. Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English is required. Candidates to be considered for appointment at the Associate Professor level must meet all the requirements for the Assistant Professor level plus have the additional research, teaching and service record commensurate with Associate Professors at a Research 1 University.
This position will be responsible for teaching language, literature, and culture courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, supporting students in the Spanish B.A. and M.A. programs as well as doctoral students in the Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies Program. Collaboration with other university faculty and staff is paramount as well as the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others. The percentage of time/effort of each of the separate job will generally be 40% teaching, 40% research, and 20% administrative.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Spanish (or a closely related field) from an accredited institution of higher education conferred by the date of initial appointment
- Demonstrated expertise in U.S. Latino/a Literature and Culture
- Concentration on Mexican or Caribbean Literatures
- Evidence of native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English
Preferred Qualifications:
- Possess strong research records or have demonstrated the potential to publish in top-tier journals, or academic presses
- Have demonstrated the ability to provide an excellent learning environment in the classroom, and value collegiality
- Additional teaching and research experience or potential in one of these areas is also desired: Spanish for heritage speakers, and/or digital humanities
- Strong evidence of the ability to be an active, involved, and collegial member of a collaborative faculty team both on campus and in relevant national service organizations.
- Candidates to be considered for the position at the Associate Level will have a record of publications of innovative research from top journals in the field or academic presses and must have gained scholarly recognition in their field at the national level and must have an ongoing research agenda and record of involvement in the profession
