Mental Health Cooperative, Inc. (MHC) was formed in 1993 to serve individuals with severe and persistent mental illness.  Since then, we have expanded our services to children and adolescents with severe emotional disorders across Middle and East Tennessee.

Our sole purpose is to support and treat those challenged with serious mental illness and poverty. Although based out of Nashville, we serve several communities across middle and East Tennessee with satellite offices in Antioch, Gallatin, Dickson, Columbia, Cleveland, Murfreesboro, Clarksville, Cookeville, Chattanooga, and Memphis.

Position Summary: The MAT/IOP Therapist is responsible for providing clinical services to clients engaged in Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) and the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). This role includes conducting assessments, facilitating individual and group therapy, developing and monitoring treatment plans, and maintaining compliance with all agency, state, and federal guidelines. The therapist works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure integrated, evidence-based, and person-centered care.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Conduct initial clinical assessments, diagnostic evaluations, and level-of-care determinations in accordance with ASAM criteria and agency policies.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans with measurable goals, incorporating MAT and IOP requirements.
  • Provide individual, group, and family therapy sessions using evidence-based practices (e.g., CBT, DBT, MI, relapse prevention).
  • Facilitate IOP groups in accordance with program curriculum and regulatory standards.
  • Monitor client progress toward treatment goals, update treatment plans as needed, and complete timely discharge/transition planning.
  • Collaborate with prescribers, case managers, peer support specialists, and nursing staff to coordinate care for MAT clients.
  • Provide psychoeducation to clients regarding MAT, recovery, relapse prevention, and co-occurring disorders.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR), meeting all agency and payer requirements.
  • Participate in regular treatment team meetings, clinical supervision, and case consultations.
  • Ensure compliance with state licensing standards, Medicaid/insurance requirements, and confidentiality regulations (HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2).
  • Maintain current knowledge of best practices, ethical guidelines, and regulatory changes relevant to MAT and IOP services.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for attending all mandatory in-services, continuing education and annual health requirements
  • Comply with all Corporate Compliance policies, practices and procedures Report all unethical activities to supervisor, Corporate Compliance Office, Values Hotline number or Human Resource Director
  • Comply with all OSHA and safety policies, practices, and procedures. Report all unsafe practices or accidents to supervisor, Safety Supervisor and/or OSHA Coordinator
  • Will be compliant with the relevant regulations concerning the privacy and security of consumer’s protected health information (PHI) as established by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA)
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill
  • Follow all policies and procedures set by the Agency

Essential Skills And Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related behavioral health field.
  • Current state licensure (LCSW, LPC, LMFT, LMSW under supervision, or equivalent).
  • One (1) year of clinical experience in substance use disorder treatment, preferably in MAT and/or IOP settings.
  • Knowledge of ASAM criteria, DSM-5, and clinical documentation standards.
  • Strong group facilitation skills and ability to manage group dynamics in an IOP setting.
  • Familiarity with MAT medications (buprenorphine, naltrexone) and harm reduction approaches.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Substance use specialty certification (CADC, LADAC, LCAS, or equivalent).
  • Two (2) or more years of experience providing therapy in an outpatient or higher level of care.
  • Experience with co-occurring disorders, trauma-informed care, and crisis intervention.
  • Acceptable Motor Vehicle Report (MVR)
  • Acceptable Criminal Background Investigation
  • Full-time, exempt position; schedule may include some evening hours to accommodate program needs.
  • Primarily office-based with potential for telehealth service delivery.
  • Must comply with agency policies, quality assurance standards, and performance measures.
