Position Summary
The Corporate Benefits Manager will lead the strategic design, administration, compliance, and communication of all employee benefit programs, including a self-funded health insurance plan, as well as all other fully insured benefits offerings, and 401(k) retirement plan, and FMLA / ADA support. This role ensures that benefit offerings are competitive, cost-effective, legally compliant, and aligned with the company’s values and workforce needs in a rapidly growing organization. This position will play a key role in HR M&A activities an play a key HR role in the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Plan Design & Administration
- Will manage one Corporate Benefits and 401K Specialist who will support open enrollment, audits and ongoing employee needs directly, as well as some data analytics.
- Oversee all aspects of the self-funded health insurance plan, including vendor management, claims analysis, stop-loss coverage, and third-party administrator (TPA) coordination.
- Manage all benefits plans, (EX: fully insured plans, ancillary, and self-funded), 401(k) retirement programs.
- Lead annual open enrollment, employee education, and benefit communications.
- Develop and maintain benefit policies, procedures, and documentation that are compliant with the law and the company’s objectives.
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure full compliance with PHI, ERISA, HIPAA, FMLA, ACA, COBRA, and other applicable federal and state regulations.
- Manage third party carrier to ensure compliance with any FMLA and ADA requests and guide the field with implementing accommodations or leaves of absence.
- Maintain plan documents, Summary Plan Descriptions (SPDs), and Form 5500 filings, and any other plan documents related to benefits and 401K plans.
- Serve as an internal expert on benefit-related audits, nondiscrimination testing, and fiduciary responsibilities.
- Monitor legislative changes and proactively adjust programs to remain compliant with local, state and federal laws.
- Lead, coordinate and host quarterly governance committee meetings for the self-funded plans.
Data Analytics & Reporting
- Analyze claims data, utilization trends, and cost drivers to inform plan design and cost containment strategies.
- Compile and present dashboards and reports to senior leadership on benefit KPIs.
- Use data mining tools to identify opportunities for wellness initiatives and employee engagement.
- Partner with finance to manage cost allocations and analytics.
Vendor & Budget Management
- Participate in negotiation of contracts with carriers, brokers, and TPAs.
- Manage benefit budgets, forecast costs, and identify savings opportunities.
- Evaluate vendor performance and service levels.
Employee Support & Advocacy
- Provide guidance to employees on FMLA and ADA requests, benefit options, eligibility, and claims resolution.
- Partner with HR Business Partners to address benefit-related concerns and escalations.
- Partner with third party carriers to manage FMLA and ADA requests, and coordinate with HR BPs on obtaining certifications and reasonable accommodation claims.
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or relevant degree, preferred.
- 4+ years of progressive experience in benefits administration, including managing self-funded health plans required.
- Deep expertise in ERISA, HIPAA, FMLA, COBRA, ACA, ADA and any other related regulatory frameworks.
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Excel, data visualization tools, and HRIS systems, preferably Workday.
- Experience with compliance testing, discrimination testing, Form 5500, and fiduciary oversight.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and project management skills.
- Strong ability to communicate and support at any and all levels of the organization.
- Experience in rapid growth organizations, including M&A activities.
- Proven ability to manage vendors and lead cross-functional initiatives.
