Position Summary

Manages and controls storage and distribution activities to ensure maximum utilization of facilities.  Administers warehouse operations including inventory, shipping and receiving, handling and disposition of materials, safety, quality, planning, and operational efficiencies.  Manages warehouse staff.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains receiving, warehousing and distribution operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures. 
  • Monitors all warehouse functions and the pace and flow of product from receiving through shipping. 
  • Plans layout of stockroom, warehouse and other storage areas, considering turnover, size, weight and related factors of items stored. 
  • Establishes operational procedures for activities, such as verification of incoming and outgoing shipments, handling and disposition of materials, and keeping warehouse inventory current. 
  • Inspects physical condition of warehouse and equipment and directs the preparation work orders for repairs and requisitions for replacement of equipment. 
  • Advises employees on care and preservation of equipment received, stored and shipped, and the methods, care, maintenance and use of equipment in handling, storing, maintaining and shipping stock and related problems. 
  • Manages recruiting, retaining and training of highly capable employees to support the warehouse. 
  • Promotes team spirit and works collaboratively to achieve team goals 
  • Resolves interdepartmental issues involving the warehouse. 
  • Controls inventory levels by conducting physical counts; reconciling with data storage system. 
  • Reviews records for accuracy of information and compliance with established procedures and to determine adequacy of stock levels. 
  • Traces history of items to determine reasons for discrepancies between inventory and stock control records and establishes remedial actions to resolve discrepancies. 
  • Directs salvage of damaged or used material. Studies records and recommends remedial actions for reported non-usable, slow moving and excess stock.  
  • Tracks and records customer related issues and challenges in order to develop a strategy to overcome any internal problems. 
  • Establishes rapport with customers, salespeople, vendors, and warehouse staff to maintain strong working relationships. 
  • Safeguards warehouse operations and contents by establishing and monitoring security procedures and protocols. 
  • Participates in planning personnel safety, plant-protection activities, and maintaining a safe working environment.  
  • Oversees the compliance with federal, state, and local warehousing, material handling, and shipping requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; and advising management on needed actions. 
  • Achieves financial objectives by preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; and initiating corrective actions to meet established performance standards. 
  • Confers with department heads to ensure coordination of warehouse activities. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field preferred.  
  • Eight years of related experience in warehouse or distribution center operations required.  
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations required.  
  • Intermediate MS Office skills required.   
  • Sunflower Property Management experience preferred.  
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with all levels of the organization. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage time and multiple priorities to completion.  
  • Problem solving skills with an analytical thought process.  
  • Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment.

Working Conditions

Work is typically based in a busy office environment and subject to frequent interruptions. Business work hours are Monday-Friday standard core hours, however some extended or weekend hours may be required.
