Senior Research Fellow – Nagel Institute for the Study of World Christianity

The Research Fellow will lead an externally funded project on global patterns of religious change. The project combines global surveys, archival sources, and geo-referenced (GIS) data to examine how pluralism, competition, government restrictions, and leaders’ decisions have shaped religious activity over the 20th and 21st centuries. 

As Principal Investigator, the Fellow will direct research activities, coordinate with faculty, students, and the Institute’s Director, and collaborate with experts and partner institutions. Responsibilities include analyzing survey and archival data, producing publications, sharing findings with academic and broader audiences, and mentoring students engaged with the project. 

Qualifications:

• PhD in a relevant field (sociology, religious studies, political science, or related discipline), or equivalent research experience. 
• Strong background in quantitative research methods and comparative analysis. 
• Record of publications (or strong potential to publish). 
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate across institutions. 

Appointment: .70-.75 FTE during the 3-year project period starting as early as December 1, 2025. Appointment is contingent on grant funding.
