Join the Community Forensic Mental Health Service (CFMHS) team as we expand our services across Regional and Metropolitan Victoria, establishing a site in the Western metropolitan region. CFMHS is a specialist state-wide agency that works with individuals who have a serious mental health illness and have offended or are at risk of offending.
These newly created positions provide an exciting opportunity to be part of a new service, reflective of the expanding growth of Forensicare. These roles will embed Forensicare's model of care in practice within the Western metropolitan region.
About the Role:
The Senior Clinician will improve outcomes for consumers who have offending risks and mental illness and/or problem behaviours, and the families and carers through:
• Improving access to Forensicare’s specialist forensic mental health services;
• Coordination, referral pathways and transition support between specialist mental health care, correctional services and prisons;
• Improving the capability of key local services to manage offending risks of consumers and appropriately refer consumers for specialist assessment and treatment;
• Pathways into and out of Thomas Embling Hospital, to ensure that inpatient stays are no longer than necessary.
Duties:
• Proactively develop and maintain professional relationships with the relevant AMHWS, and forensic clinical specialists.
• Proactively develop links with other mental health and social support services who provide services required to meet the needs of consumers and/or require forensic mental health support.
• Provide specialist primary, secondary and tertiary consultation services for AMHWS and other key stakeholders, including advanced specialist forensic mental health assessments, risk assessments, reports, and advice on the assessment and management of complex forensic mental health issues.
• Contribute to consumer risk management plans in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team.
• Provide case management on a shared care basis with AMHWS, and support Forensicare’s Community Transition and Treatment Program in the case management of consumers on extended care from Thomas Embling Hospital.
• Provide supervision of consumers under a Non-Custodial Order disposition under the Crimes (Mental Impairment and Unfitness to be Tried) Act 1997
• Support people transitioning from prisons to the region.
About You:
• Experience working in forensic mental health including forensic mental health risk assessment, care planning and service delivery.
• Demonstrated minimum 5-year post registration mental health experience.
• Demonstrated ability to undertake comprehensive psychosocial and risk assessments and to plan, implement and evaluate clinical interventions.
• Demonstrated commitment to mental health consumer recovery and person-centered and family/carer inclusive care, incorporating consumer and family and carer perspectives into service delivery at both and individual and organsation wide level.
Qualifications, knowledge, experience:
• This is multidisciplined opportunity and possession of a relevant tertiary qualification and registration or membership with the appropriate Board or Association as a Registered Nurse, Psychologist, Social Worker or Occupational Therapist.
• The qualifications required for each discipline are:
Registered Nurse RPN4:
◦ Registered Psychiatric Nurse. Must have current unrestricted registration with AHPRA and a post-graduate qualification in mental health nursing or equivalent.
Psychologist Grade 3:
◦ Registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
◦ Masters or Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) or the equivalent or a Doctorate degree in Forensic Psychology accredited by APAC or the equivalent.
◦ Endorsement or eligibility for endorsement by AHPRA in the area of clinical psychology and/or forensic psychology.
Social Worker Grade 3:
◦ Tertiary qualifications in Social Work coupled with eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
Occupational Therapist Grade 3:
◦ Current Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner’s Regulations Agency (AHPRA).
◦ Approved degree in Occupational Therapy and recognised for membership of OT Australia – Australian Association of Occupational Therapists.
◦ Understanding and commitment to working within the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia’s Australian Occupational Therapy competency standards (2018) and Code of Ethics.
This position will initially have a hybrid working arrangement between Paul Mullen Centre – Clifton Hill
