Renaissance College requires a Lower Primary Visual Arts Teacher (Years 1-3) starting from August 2026. This will be a one- year finite contract.

Visual Arts teachers collaborate with a primary team of educators and a college-wide team of visual and creative arts educators. Visual Arts teachers must also be skilled at collaborating with other specialist teams and homeroom teachers from across the school, as well as members of the Learning Enhancement Team (LET), to live our vision, mission, and Bedrock Principles.
Working as part of a team under the guidance and direction of the Vice Principal (learning & teaching)/Head of Department (Visual Arts), the teacher is expected to fulfil the following roles:
- Provide creative, process-oriented learning experiences for every student corresponding to their needs, abilities, and stage of development, by teaching a programme that gives each student the opportunity to experience success, and which challenges each student to achieve their full creative potential.
- Use structured inquiry and play-based exploration to nurture learning, relying on student data and observational notes to inform teaching.
- Establish effective and positive relationships with students based on mutual respect, recognition of the individuality of each student, and affirmation of their identity and sense of belonging.
- Provide a safe, effective, and stimulating studio environment that is conducive to creativity, exploration, and managed risk-taking.
- Teach students, as timetabled, employing assessment of learning practices including feedback to feedforward, with a focus on the creative process as well as the final product.
- Assess, record, and report on the development, progress, and achievement of students in accordance with the Primary Years Programme (PYP) expectations and the assessment policy/guidance of ESF/Renaissance College.
- Collaborate and cooperate with other staff (whole school) on the preparation and development of a progression of learning, teaching resources, in alignment with leading learning & teaching practices used at the school.
- Safeguard the health & safety of children, particularly in the context of an art classroom using various materials and tools.
- Keep up to date on teaching and international education developments, sharing enthusiasm and resources with colleagues.
- Regularly refer to professional learning and curriculum resources (sourced from MyIB [PYP Resource Centre], ESF Assembly & the Primary Staff Handbook).
- Attend professional meetings which relate to curricular, administrative and/or organisational matters as required; scheduled by the Head of Department, Year-level leader(s), Curriculum Coordinators, Primary Leadership Team, and/or College Leadership Team.
- Participate in the school system of cover for covering absent teachers.
- Participate in arrangements for preparing students for standardised assessments.
- Participate in administrative and organisational tasks related to such duties as are described above.
- Make an active contribution to the policies and aspirations of the school.
- Engage in transdisciplinary collaborative planning, proactively seeking connections to support homeroom Units of Inquiry.
- Engage in the House (Dynasty) system responsibilities of a teacher.
- Take responsibility for the safety of students through supervision duties.
- Assist with specialist functions such as art exhibitions, installations, and extracurricular activities that enhance the student experience of Visual Arts at RCHK.
- Lead and manage the school’s involvement in internal and external art initiatives and exhibitions.
- Perform other responsibilities which may reasonably be assigned from time to time by the Head of Primary and/or Principal.

The Visual Arts Teacher (Lower Primary) is expected to have the following skills, capabilities, knowledge, and experience:
Skills & Capabilities
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Effective collaboration skills, with a particular emphasis on transdisciplinary planning.
- Outstanding organisational skills, especially in managing a multi-media studio environment.
- A high level of motivation and a passion for fostering creativity in young children.
- The ability to take initiative, self-direct, and exercise sound professional judgment.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to plan and conduct events such as art exhibitions and student-led gallery walks.
In-Depth Knowledge Of
- Effective learning and teaching practices to support young students in an environment that caters to learning diversity, with a focus on process over product.
- The progression of child development in relation to artistic and fine motor skill development.
- Planning, collaboration, and team-building processes.
- Research-based assessment practices for, as, and of learning within a creative arts context.
- The Primary Years Programme (PYP) and its approach to the arts as a means of inquiry and expression.
Knowledge And Experience
- Experience curating and managing student art exhibitions and displays.
- Experience teaching Visual Arts in the Early Years/Lower Primary (Years 1-3) through an inquiry-based, concept-driven curriculum.
- Knowledge of using technology to support learning in a visual arts curriculum (e.g., digital art, graphic design).
- Experience with a wide range of art-making processes and media suitable for young learners (e.g., painting, sculpture, printmaking, collage, ceramics).
- Teaching the IB-PYP is required.
- As a primary practitioner.
Application Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Education, or
- Bachelor's Degree in any subjects with PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate of Education), or equivalent
- 1-3 years teaching experience within a recognised educational organisation
