West Island School is currently seeking to appoint a Teacher of English to start in August 2026 on a full-time, 2-year renewable contract by mutual agreement.

Key Responsibilities

Teacher of English Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging and effective English lessons across Years 7-13, (MYP / IGCSE / IB DP).
• Collaborate with the Head of English and a team of 12 English teachers to develop innovative teaching units.
• Utilise inquiry-based learning strategies to enhance student understanding and engagement.

Pastoral Care

• Serve as a tutor for a group of approximately 15 students, supporting their holistic development through pastoral work.

Extra-Curricular Contributions

• Actively participate in extra-curricular events and activities, either through personal interests or in support of student-led initiatives.

Expectations

• Demonstrate a commitment to collaboration and continuous learning within the teaching team.
• Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and growth.
• Utilise the exceptional resources and facilities available to maximize student potential

Educational Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Education, or a Bachelor’s Degree in English with PGCE/PGDE (Postgraduate Certificate/Diploma of Education), or equivalent.
• Experience teaching English across age and ability range.
• Proven track record as an excellent classroom teacher, with experience in global citizenship and service-oriented.

• Commitment to inclusion and fostering a supportive learning environment.
• Proven experience leading or contributing to extra-curricular programs.
• Ability to work collaboratively in developing curriculum and pedagogy.
