Counselor (NW College) - Temporary Full time Staff Assignment - 25002XI
Provides counseling services to assist students identify, mitigate and/or remove barriers that impede their ability to reach their academic, career, and personal goals.

Identifies, mitigates, and removes barriers that impede students’ ability to reach academic, career, and personal goals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provide career assessment and counseling to undecided majors and referrals from Success Course Instructors.
Assist in the development of career exploration resources to be utilized in Success Courses.
Respond to crisis situations and to Campus/College-critical incidents requiring counseling services (e.
g.
, classroom/group debriefing, supportive counseling).
Respond to early alert referrals requiring counselor intervention.
Responsible and accountable for a case load of at-risk students (i.e., probation, suspension, repeaters, early alert) by providing counseling on disciplinary probation or suspension, as referred by the Dean of Student Services, to address behaviors in violation of the Student Code of Conduct.
Provide online counseling services via email, phone, and other applicable technology to include out-of-district, out-of-state, and distance education students as needed.
Maintain confidential student records.
Provide community resources and follow-up as needed.
Work with faculty to assist students who may be experiencing academic or personal challenges.
May serve on the College Behavioral Intervention and Threat Assessment Team.
Review medical documentation and determine appropriate accommodations.
ADA Counselor ensures accommodations are consistent across campus and within legal requirements.
The ADA/504 Counselor, in consultation with legal counsel and the Office of EEO and Title IX, make alterations in the protocol or individual accommodation plans as legal decisions/requirements dictate change.
Educate and assist faculty and staff with ADA and 504 regulations.
Ensure appropriate processes are in place to provide for the prompt and unbiassed resolution of complaints and inquiries from HCC students regarding discrimination based on disability.
Maintain current information regarding state and federal laws and regulations, as well as the best practices of other colleges/universities concerning the rights of students with disabilities.
Maintain current information regarding ways of providing reasonable accommodations to students with disabilities while maintaining program performance standards.
Develop and maintain written materials and other informational pieces to broadly disseminate information regarding the ADA and HCC’s policies relating to students with disabilities.
Develop and implement internal measures and/or reports which inform HCC administration of the status of ADA compliance and opportunities for students with disabilities.
Coordinate with the Office of EEO and Title IX on student complaints alleging discrimination and non-compliance under the ADA and other applicable federal and state laws regarding discrimination based on disability.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
General Office. Must be able to perform all job requirements with or without reasonable accommodations; remain in a stationary position during shift; move items weighing up to 25 pounds; position self to operate job equipment; apply established protocols in a timely manner. Must access, input and retrieve information from technology devices; communicate with others to accomplish job requirements. May be required to work after hours to include weekends and holidays.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
- Master’s degree with a concentration in counseling (i.e., Counseling, Education, Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Marriage & Family Therapy)
- 3 years’ experience counseling adult populations required
- Higher education counseling preferred
- Valid Texas Driver License
- Counseling licensure (i.e., LPC, LMFT, LCSW, or Licensed Psychologist) required
- Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) Credential a plus
- MS Office Programs
