Description

The Department of Fine and Performing Arts at Creighton University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track Assistant Professor with primary assignment in the Honors Program and specializing in classical Greek philosophy, history and literature. We seek individuals committed to being outstanding teacher-scholars within a primarily undergraduate-serving college. The successful applicant will teach a 4-4 course load that includes 1st and 2nd year core courses in the honors program, as well as 1st year Magis Core courses in Philosophical Ideas and Critical Issues in Human Inquiry and 2nd year Magis Core courses in Literature, depending on college needs, which may vary from year to year. 

Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in classics, history, literature, philosophy (or a closely related field) is required to be in hand by the beginning of the contract
  • Commitment to the distinctive pedagogical and intellectual development of Honors Program students
  • Competency in classical languages, especially Ancient Greek and Latin preferred
  • Ability to foster student learning, development, and decision making in support of their goals, success, wellness, and needs 
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop rapport quickly and effectively with a diversity of populations
  • Empathy and compassion for the experiences of others
  • An emerging record of scholarship
  • An ability and willingness to promote the Catholic and Jesuit educational mission of the university
