About The Opportunity

This is an open position with the FirstEnergy Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.

Program Delivery's Financial Management & Controls team proudly manages over two-billion-dollars of regulatory and program spend over a five-year portfolio. This team is responsible for ensuring financial health, compliance, and cost efficiency across these programs. The team currently oversees the forecast for over 10 programs with opportunities to expand the number of programs in portfolio being investigated. 

The Financial Management & Controls team seeks a financial business analyst to facilitate implementation of program initiatives, drive accountability and promote collaboration. Predictable activities including budgeting, program status reporting, accounting management, benefits tracking and business case management.

The preferred reporting location is FirstEnergy Headquarters in Akron, Ohio.  Other major locations within the company's service territory such as Greensburg and Reading, PA, will be considered.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Leading the budgeting process for the assigned program(s)
  • Monitoring and reporting progress against program plans and providing presentations to leadership and other ad-hoc data requests
  • Collaborating with Regulatory, Rates, Legal, Project Management, Engineering Services, Portfolio Management, and Business Services to support strategic planning and development of priorities, solutions, scope, and rolling out implementation strategies for new programs
  • Responding to regulatory audits
  • Independently anticipating and meeting internal/external customer needs
  • Developing solutions for complex assignments while actively seeking ways to build challenge and add value within scope of assignments
  • Experience with cost flows, order settlements, and journal entry processes
  • Promoting a sense of urgency in the team for reaching goals and meeting deadlines
  • Demonstrating the ability to forge effective working relationships and achieving desired results with employees from various levels as well as 3rd party vendors and consultants
  • Making sound decisions by evaluating options with consideration for implications and consequences
  • Supporting continuous improvement activities across the business unit and FirstEnergy

Qualifications Include:

  • Two-to-four-year degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Engineering or related discipline and minimum 4 to 10 years’ related work experience is required.
  • In lieu of a degree, minimum 7 to 13 years’ related work experience is required. Relevant work experience includes financial forecasting & analysis, cost flow oversight, expense verification & correction, project management controls, strategic financial planning, or portfolio management.
  • Proven experience in financial management with budget ownership. Strong understanding of financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and risk management.
  • Possess strong computer skills in the Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word), SAP, QlikView, PlannerDash, PowerPlan and Coupa. PowerBI/Toad skills are a plus. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interpret and communicate data.
  • Strong analytical, decision making, planning, and problem-solving skills are necessary
  • Strong understanding of process improvement and reengineering techniques is preferred
  • Ability to effectively present complex subject matter to all levels of management
  • Must be a team player and possess a willingness to collaborate in a team environment and work effectively as a partner across all FE business units.
  • Questioning attitude to learn and produce results while working across FirstEnergy
  • Regional Operating Company experience related to Line, Substations, Engineering, Work Management, or Business Services is preferred.
  • FERC and/or State rate making experience is a plus

FirstEnergy takes a market-based approach to pay, which may vary depending on your location.  In addition, your actual base salary will depend on various factors such as your skills, qualifications, and experience.

The estimated pay range for this role is $70,000 - $105,000.
