Position Purpose:

The Clinical Dietitian is responsible for assessing patient nutrition status, providing medical nutrition therapy and diet counsel/education to patients according to established protocols.Key Responsibilities
Nutrition Care
- Provides quality nutrition care in relation to the patient's prescribed diagnosis, treatment, age group, nutrition status and other needs in an acute care environment, as well as within the clinics as appropriate.
- Provides support and guidance to Dietetic Interns.
- Participates in ongoing education as appropriate.
- Provides a comprehensive assessment of nutritional status, determines patient's nutrient needs, and develops a comprehensive plan of care by using department-established guidelines.
- Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team individually and in group meetings in recommending, implementing, and monitoring of nutrition interventions.
- Documents care in the medical record. Ensures timely and accurate billing as appropriate to the position.
- Provides ongoing or follow-up care according to established time frames and reassessment criteria. Identifies and provides for patient and family education needs.
- Participates in departmental quality improvement efforts. revision of departmental formulary, development of practice guidelines and educational resources, and community events.
Regulatory/Accountability
- Performs duties in compliance with performance improvement plans, and all licensing, accrediting, and regulatory agencies.
- Documentation is complete and consistent with MNT standards of care, including response to treatment.
- Adheres to the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics Code of Ethics.
- Participates in creating and monitoring quality/performance improvement standards.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree with major in foods, nutrition and/or food service administration.
Certification: Valid registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). Will accept registry eligible at time of hire but must be registered within three months of hire.
Licensure: None
Knowledge And Skills:
- Excellent computer and communication skills essential.
- Effective interpersonal skills
- Able to prioritize tasks and utilize resources in an organized manner.
- Ability to maintain productivity standards
- Knowledge of Therapeutic diets, Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT), diet for age, enteral/parenteral nutrition
- Ability to calculate nutritional components of enteral and parenteral feedings, as well as to calculate nutrition needs based on age, height, weight, and other medical indices.
- Ability to apply extensive clinical nutrition knowledge.
- Ability to provide nutrition education.
Preferences
Education: Master’s degree with a major in foods, nutrition and/or food services administration.
Experience:
· Minimum of five (5) years’ experience.
Certification: Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC) and/or Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE).
Knowledge And Skills:
· Nutrition Focused Physical Exams (NFPE).
· Nutrition Support.
- Billing for outpatient services.
- Electronic Medical Record System.
- Foodservice software systems

- Must be able to hear and respond to questions and communicate verbally with patients.
