Job Description
We‘re looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated Corporate Communications Executive to join our team that can turn ideas into compelling narratives and bring our brand to life across every channel. If you love crafting high quality content that connects, inspires, and drives action, this is the role for you!
You'll form part of the Group Communications team and be responsible for creating communications and innovative events for both our internal employee audience and our external media and social audiences. You will play a vital role in aligning our internal and external communications to build engagement with all our company stakeholders.
This role is a permanent and full-time position. Working 4 days per week out of our Central Birmingham office, with the option of working from home 1 day per week.
About The Role
- Be at the heart of our storytelling engine, shaping how we speak to our employees and the external world from informative newsletters to punchy social posts and long-form thought leadership, your words will help us stand out, spark conversations and build trust
- Collaborate with brilliant minds across the business to turn complex ideas into clear, engaging copy
- Champion our people and culture by supporting the evolution of our wellbeing and belonging initiatives and amplifying stories that matter
- Help grow our internal communications platforms, making it a vibrant hub for connection and engagement
- Deliver unforgettable events, both in-person and virtual, that celebrate Smiths and reflect our strategic priorities
- Oversee video content creation, working with teams and partners to produce powerful visual storytelling
- Support our external communications strategy, drafting materials that position Smiths as a leader in smarter engineering
- Manage our Group social channels – primarily LinkedIn and X
- Drive our owned content strategy forward drafting and collating high quality content for our channels, and lead our Shorthand development work
- Responsibility for maintaining the Group website including building stories on Shorthand platform
- Build and nurture media relationships, maintain our corporate media list, and pitch key stories that showcase our innovation and impact
- Support elements of corporate affairs / government relations approach
- Play a key role in communicating financial results and other corporate milestones, ensuring clarity and consistency
- Collaborate closely with our corporate communications and website agencies
- Help with work underway to build out a government affairs programme for the Group
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Arts degree or a related degree in communications/marketing/PR
- Be energetic, driven and committed to a career in communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field
- A proactive mindset, a collaborative spirit and a passion for storytelling
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Well organised and detail orientated
- Strong stakeholder management and project coordination skills
- Good computer skills, including MS Office
- Proven experience in a similar communications role and can hit the ground running
