Help us deliver like never before
Australia Post is delivering like never before. From the vehicles that we drive, to the small businesses that make our communities thrive. We’re delivering for the environment, for our communities, for our customers and our people. We’re moving forward and we want you to come along for the ride.
About the opportunity
We’re looking for a Sydney Transport Operations Manager to join our team at the Sydney Transport Facility (STF). Reporting directly to the Facility Manager, this role acts as the second in charge of the site and leads the Loadmasters team.
This is an exciting time to join Australia Post as we continue to transform the way we deliver for our customers and communities. As Operations Manager, you’ll play a key role in shaping the future of our transport network — driving a culture of operational excellence, continuous improvement, and innovation.
You’ll be responsible for supporting team performance, ensuring safe and efficient service delivery, and building capability within your team. With a focus on collaboration, you’ll partner with stakeholders and customers to deliver positive change, uphold legal and operational requirements, and achieve sustainable results.
What you’ll deliver with us
As an operations Manager, you’ll have a direct impact on the performance and safety of the Sydney Transport Facility. You’ll translate strategy into action, manage resources effectively, and create an environment where your team can thrive. With responsibility for people, cost, and service outcomes, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the facility operates smoothly and delivers strong results.
In This Role, You Will:
- Lead the planning and delivery of operational performance targets, including productivity, quality, and peak readiness.
- Manage budgets and implement cost-saving initiatives to drive financial efficiency.
- Act as the customer liaison for the Sydney region, ensuring service standards are consistently achieved.
- Promote a strong safety culture by managing Chain of Responsibility obligations and embedding wellbeing initiatives.
- Build and develop a high-performing team through coaching, feedback, and career development support.
- Address workplace changes and challenges in a timely, consultative, and solutions-focused manner.
About You
You’re an experienced operational leader with the ability to manage complex environments and deliver strong results through people, process, and performance. You’re confident working with a range of stakeholders — from service providers and customers to unions and internal teams — and can balance strategic priorities with day-to-day operational demands. Most importantly, you’re someone who leads by example, builds trust, and drives accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
To be successful in this role, you’ll bring:
- Significant experience in an operational management environment, with a track record of delivering successful change outcomes.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence, collaborate, and build effective relationships.
- Knowledge of the transport industry, including regulatory requirements such as Chain of Responsibility, WHS, fatigue management, and compliance.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage at all levels.
- Experience holding managers and staff accountable for performance and behaviours, while fostering a safe and supportive culture.
- (Desirable) Tertiary qualifications in Logistics or a related field, and/or Lean Six Sigma background.
Are you unsure about applying?
Research shows that men will often apply for a job when they meet around 60% of the requirements, while women and other under-represented groups tend to only apply when they meet every box. If you think you have what it takes but don’t tick every single requirement above, we’d still love to hear from you.
How we’ll deliver for you
- Join one of the most culturally and linguistically diverse workforces in Australia, with people of all ages, genders and walks of life
- We deliver on our values of Trust, Inclusivity, Empowerment and Safety every day. They’re the TIES that bind our team together
- Immerse yourself in the AP Way – where every single team member partakes in a learning module to help understand the vital role we play in delivering on our strategy and purpose
