We are looking for a talented Product Functional Test Mechanical Technician to join our Engineering Department in Cwmbran, Wales in United Kingdom.
This is a permanent on-site position, working Monday to Friday 6am - 2pm (1 in 6 weeks PM shift 2pm - 10pm), weekend overtime available.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
- Delivering accurate and reliable test results that engineering teams can confidently use for product validation and decision-making.
- Ensuring test methods are executed consistently, which strengthens the credibility and repeatability of results.
- Leveraging your in-depth knowledge of test equipment to guarantee that results are not only precise but also valid.
- Configuring and operating data acquisition systems effectively while analyzing data for correctness, preventing costly errors or misinterpretations.
- Applying your understanding of the product under test to identify anomalies, troubleshoot issues, and provide insights beyond raw data.
- Maintaining and improving the reliability of lab equipment and test stands, reducing downtime and ensuring smooth operations.
- Supporting engineering teams with recommendations on equipment upgrades, specifications, and supplier evaluations, directly influencing quality and efficiency.
- Acting as a bridge between testing and engineering, providing both technical execution and practical insights that accelerate development.
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
- Technical expertise and hands-on skills to interpret test plans, set up specimens and vehicle brake systems, and operate instrumentation, control systems, and data logging equipment.
- Analytical ability and attention to detail to monitor test processes, troubleshoot issues, and produce accurate, clear, and reliable reports from test data.
- Practical problem-solving and maintenance capability to repair, maintain, and optimize test beds, rigs, and vehicles while supporting continuous improvement and 5S activities.
- Independence, flexibility, and safety focus to work unsupervised, travel as required, and consistently uphold health, safety, and quality standards.
Education/ Experience:
- High school diploma, certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience in an appropriate STEM field is required.
- Regionally applicable certification or two year Associates Degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field of study may be required.
- Requires significant relevant work experience or specialized skills obtained through education, training or on-the-job experience.
