Your Role
We are seeking an experienced Design Director to lead our Consumer-Packaged Goods (CPG) practice, driving innovative design solutions for leading consumer brands. This role combines creative vision with hands-on creative development and leadership to deliver breakthrough and powerful designs that excite shoppers and drives business results.
Responsibilities:
Design Direction
- Oversee the creative development of packaging designs from concept through production
- Actively participate in the design development of creative concepts for CPG projects by contributing to designing options
- Lead and mentor design teams including graphic designers and production artists
- Ensure design excellence across all touchpoints — including packaging, POS, trade materials, and shopper marketing — while maintaining brand consistency
- Stay attuned to CPG category trends, retail environments, and consumer behavior
Client & Cross-Functional Relationships
- Serve as the primary creative contact for key CPG accounts
- Build trusted relationships with brand managers, marketing directors, and R&D partners
- Lead compelling creative presentations and design reviews with client stakeholders
Industry & Technical Expertise
- Stay current on CPG industry trends, competitive landscape, and regulatory requirements
- Understand manufacturing processes, material limitations, sustainability considerations, and cost implications
- Collaborate with production partners and suppliers on technical feasibility
- Ensure compliance with Canada’s legal standards and retailer requirements
Requirements
- 10+ years in brand/packaging design, with focus on CPG categories
- 4+ years in a senior creative leadership role at a design agency or in-house team
- Portfolio demonstrating successful, market-proven CPG projects
- Excellent knowledge of technological, cultural, and media trends.
- Excellent advertising and popular culture knowledge.
- Mandatory french/english bilingualism.
Desired Skills
- Expert knowledge of packaging design principles, sustainability practices, and production processes
- Strong understanding of retail environments and shopper psychology
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, 3D visualization tools, and presentation software
- Excellent communication, leadership, and client presentation skills
- Creative strategic thinker able to translate business objectives into powerful creative solutions
- Strong capacity for analysis, critical thinking, organization, and priority management.
