Job Duties
The Division of Prevention and Health Promotion in the Office of Family Health Services is seeking a dedicated, qualified candidate to serve as the Stroke Program Coordinator. This critical position is responsible for the implementation of the Virginia Stroke Quality Improvement legislation mandated to VDH in Code of Virginia § 32.1-111.15:1, activities in the CDC Paul Coverdell National Acute Stroke Program, and clinical quality improvement activities under the Chronic Disease Unit.
Characteristic duties: Administering the Virginia Stroke Care Quality Improvement Advisory Group, management of and reporting on the requirements of stroke legislation mandated in Code of Virginia § 32.1-111.15:1, implementing Stroke Smart Virginia with partners and community members across Virginia, coordinate clinical quality improvement activities with state and local partners including clinics, health systems, hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, and pharmacies. This is a hybrid telework position.
This is a restricted position, which is solely funded by the CDC Paul Coverdell National Acute Stroke Program for a 5-year period ending June 29, 2029. The availability of funding is scheduled for review on September 29, 2026,and periodically thereafter. Continued employment is contingent on the continued availability of funds.
Minimum Qualifications
• Knowledge of health systems, clinical quality measures, health insurance and quality improvement
• Demonstrated skills in communication, group meeting facilitation, public speaking, presenting
• Demonstrated ability in writing reports, communicating about health data to different audiences, reviewing policies and research findings
• Demonstrated ability in managing projects
• Experience collaborating with various healthcare professionals, including but not limited to physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, nurses, paramedics, physical therapists, public health practitioners, or healthcare administrators
Additional Considerations
• Knowledge of chronic diseases and risk factors, including stroke, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hypertension, high blood cholesterol, and obesity
• Demonstrated experience with clinical quality improvement interventions
• Demonstrated experience working directly in any setting of the continuum of stroke care from community education / prevention / primary care, pre-hospital, in-hospital, rehabilitation and post-discharge settings
